Application of Allele Specific Markers in Determining Alleles at VRN-1 Loci in Bread Wheat Genotypes
Authors
Abstract:
Wheat is the most important crop and is cultivated all over the world. Wheat has a wide range of adaptability to different climates. Vernalization genes are one of the important factors determining wheat adaptability. in wheat breeding program understanding the alleles at vernalization requirement gens are useful to introduce new cultivar for different climates. At the molecular level, the length of the vernalization period of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is determined mainly by three loci: VRN-1, VRN-2 and VRN-3. The VRNA1, VRN-B1, and VRN-D1 genes are dominant for spring growth habit and epistatic to the alleles for winter growth habit. Therefore, winter cultivars are homozygous for the recessive alleles at the three VRN-1 loci. In the current study, 34 bread wheat accessions plus Chinese Spring wheat were investigated for allelic variation at Vrn1 loci. The current study showed that five genotypes had dominant allele at VRN-A1. VRN-A1b allele was not found at any of the genotypes. Only one genotype had VRN-A1c allele and 32 genotypes including the Chinese Spring showed vrn-A1 allele. The genotype No. 6 unexpectedly had more than one allele. At locus VRN-B, 14 genotypes had dominant allele while 20 including the Chinese Spring showed recessive allele. ele was not found at any of the genotypes. Allelic Variation of VRN-1 Locus in Iranian Wheat Landraces
Wheat is a crop with spring and winter types and wide adaptability to different climate conditions. The wide adaptability of wheat is mainly controlled by three groups of genetic factors and among them vernalization (VRN) genes play pivotal role in determining spring and winter types. In this study, 395 Iranian wheat landraces were characterized with specific primer pairs designed based on VRN-...
full textPCR-based markers for identification of some allelic variation at Glu-1 and Glu-3 loci in common wheat
Marker assisted selection (MAS) is a tool for breeding, screening, and genetic characterization of germplasm. Allelic variation of both high and low molecular weight glutenin subunits (HMW/LMW-GS) is associated with the rheological properties of wheat flour. In this study, we investigated glutenin pattern using SDS-PAGE and their PCR based on DNA markers in 60 advanced wheat lines and cultivars...
full textthe role of application of dynamic assessment approach in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels
the present study sought to investigate the role of dynamic assessment (da) in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels. to this end, after conducting the quick placement test, 60 iranian efl learners were assigned to two groups with different language proficiency levels. in both groups each participant wrote two compositions, one before and one af...
Genetic Diversity of Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Genotypes Using RAPD and ISSR Molecular Markers
The importance of grain cultivation especially wheat is obvious in terms of providing human and animal food and its impact on the economy of human societies. The reduction of genetic diversity in cultivars prevents increasing yields in line with rising demand and consumption. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the compatibility of them and increase their genetic extent. In the current, the g...
full textThe characterization and geographical distribution of the genes responsible for vernalization requirement in Chinese bread wheat.
The frequency and distribution of the major vernalization requirement genes and their effects on growth habits were studied. Of the 551 bread wheat genotypes tested, seven allelic combinations of the three Vrn-1 genes were found to be responsible for the spring habit, three for the facultative habit and one for the winter habit. The three Vrn-1 genes behaved additively with the dominant allele ...
