Abstract:

This paper considers the comparison of two ðs; SÞ production inventory systems with retrials of unsatisfied customers. The time for producing and adding each item to the inventory is exponentially distributed with rate b. However, a production rate ab higher than b is used at the beginning of the production. The higher production rate will reduce customers’ loss when inventory level approaches zero. The demand from customers is according to a Poisson process. Service times are exponentially distributed. Upon arrival, the customers enter into a buffer of finite capacity. An arriving customer, who finds the buffer full, moves to an orbit. They can retry from there and interretrial times are exponentially distributed. The two models differ in the capacity of the buffer. The aim is to find the minimum value of total cost by varying different parameters and compare the efficiency of the models. The optimum value of a corresponding to minimum total cost is an important evaluation. Matrix analytic method is used to find an algorithmic solution to the problem. We also provide several numerical or graphical illustrations.

Optimization of two-stage production/inventory systems under order base stock policy with advance demand information

It is important to share demand information among the members in supply chains. In recent years, production and inventory systems with advance demand information (ADI) have been discussed, where advance demand information means the information of demand which the decision maker obtains before the corresponding actual demand arrives. Appropriate production and inventory control using demand info...

Production Inventory Model with Different Deterioration Rates Under Linear Demand

A production inventory model with linear trend in demand is developed. Different deterioration rates are considered in a cycle. Shortages not allowed. To illustrate the model numerical example is provided and sensitivity analysis is also carried out for parameters.

Analysis of a production-inventory system with unreliable production facility

This paper tests the robustness of analytical results on performance measures for a production-inventory system with an unreliable production facility. A basic model is considered which involves a single production machine with constant production rate which operates as long as the accumulated inventory is below a pre-set threshold, and is idle otherwise. The demand process follows a compound P...

An analysis of process industry production and inventory management systems

The process industries — those firms that add value by mixing, separating, forming andror chemical reactions by either batch or continuous mode — continue to lag behind the discrete industries in the identification and implementation of Ž . effective production and inventory management P&IM techniques. A contributing factor is that the process industries have traditionally been lumped together ...

Two-period production planning and inventory control

We study a single product two-period production/inventory model, in which the demands at each period are independent random variables. To optimally satisfy these random demands, quantities can be produced at the beginning of each period using slow or fast production mode, under capacity constraints. In addition to the usual decision variables for such models, we consider that a certain quantity...
