Abstract:

Several methods are available for performance prediction of single phase shaded pole induction motors. A simple model, in conjunction with a more complicated and accurate model, which considers the asymmetrical windings and core loss, is used to compare the prediction methods against experimental results. Saturation is incorporated in the model. Fundamental and harmonic flux density wave distributions under the pole are determined by employing the accurate mathematical model of the motor and the influence of the shading angle upon this distribution is shown. The effect of airgap length upon the torque speed characteristic of the motor is also investigated.

Comparison of 2D and 3D magnetic field analysis of single-phase shaded pole induction motors

There has always been doubt on the accuracy of 2D analysis of small electric machines. To investigate the validity of this doubt, in this present work a small uni-coil shaded-pole induction motor is analyzed in 2D and 3D and the results are compared. In order to maintain the paper size as compact, the analysis is limited to the air-gap flux density distribution, variation of the main winding in...

A New Restructured Shaded Pole Induction Motor- 3D Finite Element Analysis and Experimental Verification

Shaded pole induction motors, despite the simplicity and low cost, are difficult to analyze particularly in the equivalent circuit methods, due to the asymmetric structure, saturation, harmonics, inaccurate estimation of leakage inductances and skew. Hence, 3D numerical methods could be very useful in the design and optimization stage. This paper presents the 3D transient finite element analysi...

Magnetic Saturation Impacts on Fault Analysis of Squirrel-Cage Induction Motors using Winding Function Approach

Multiple coupled circuit modeling of squirrel-cage induction motors, or winding function approach is the most detailed and complete analytical model used to analyze the performance of the faulty induction motors. This paper extends the above-mentioned model to a saturable model including variable degrees of the saturation effects using an appropriate air gap function and novel techniques for lo...

A Survey on Axial Flux Induction Motors

The induction motor with an axial air gap shows some performance characteristics that are superior to conventional induction machines. So it attracts the attention of the investigators to work on the performance prediction and design of these motors. In this paper a brief history of axial flux induction motors are presented and then the different structures of them are discussed. There are a lo...
