Analysis of effective factors on transient ground potential rise in gas insulated substations
Authors
Abstract:
This study presents the manner in which transient modeling concepts, which are fully analyzed in the referred standards, are implemented, for the purpose of evaluating the Transient Ground Potential Rise (TGPR). This is a phenomenon of 10–100kV voltages with up to 10μs duration on the grounded enclosure of Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), which may cause concern for personnel safety and problems for protection and control circuits in substations. This article summarizes the results of the investigation for influential factors on TGPR, such as, different contingency conditions and grounding system models. This article focuses on the TGPR study of "Siah-bishe" 400kV gas insulated substation. The study was carried out by modeling all pieces of equipment in the ElectroMagnetic Transients Program (EMTP)-RV, with careful consideration of different modeling guidelines and instructions described in the available standards.

New mitigation methods for transient overvoltages in gas insulated substations
During switching of disconnectors (DS) in GIS a varying number of pre-strikes and re-strikes occur. Due to the very short duration of the voltage collapse, traveling surges are generated in the busbar duct. These very fast transient overvoltages (VFTO) can become the limiting dielectric stress which defines the dimensions at UHV voltage levels. The decision shall be based on the maximum VFTO pe...
full textHigh-Frequency Spectrum Analysis of VFTO Generated inside Gas Insulated Substations
Worldwide many electrical equipment insulation failures have been reported caused by switching operations, while those equipments had previously passed all the standard tests and complied with all quality requirements. The problem is mostly associated with high-frequency overvoltages generated during opening or closing of a switching device. The transients generated during switching operations ...

15 صفحه اولNanocrystalline to Suppress VFTO and VFTC for 245kV Gas Insulated Substations
Switching of disconnectors (DS) and various faults in Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) causes number of pre-strikes and re-strikes happens. The short duration voltage collapse, traveling surges in busbar causes Very Fast Transient Over voltages (VFTO) and Very fast Transient Currents (VFTC) in the GIS substation. The main challenge is to reduce VFTO and VFTC amplitudes. Several methods have been ...
full textMitigation of Transient Overvoltages Generated Due to Switching Operations and Lightning in Gas-insulated Substation (GIS) Without Extra Limiter
Gas-insulated substations (GIS) have different specifications in proportion to air-insulated substations. Transformer failures related to lightning and switching are often reported in the gas insulated substation (GIS). This problem is the voltage magnifications due to reflections of switching and lightning surges at various junctions within the GIS. thereby overvoltages in GIS are more importa...
