AN OVERVIEW OF STEM CELL AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE RESEARCHES IN IRAN
Authors
Abstract:
Background: In many years, finding modern and appropriate treatments for diseases, especially chronic diseases (such as chronic metabolic diseases) have been one of the most important issues. On the other hand, limitations related to organ transplantation have made a serious need for advanced therapeutic strategies. In this respect, researchers have recognized the benefits of stem cells as a suitable tool. Accordingly, the application of stem cells for the treatment of various diseases has been considered in many countries around the world especially Iran. Methods: A review of the history of stem cell studies in Iran and the world was conducted and the Cell Therapy and Reconstructive Medicine Research Center was introduced as one of the leading centers in this field and a review was conducted on the activities of this center. Results: The history of studies related to cell-based therapy in Iran back to 1990. Subsequently, the Cell Therapy and Reconstructive Medicine Research Center, by providing services based on GMP principles, has provided clinical services in accordance with international standards and has conducted various researches in this field. Conclusion: The purpose of the current review is to examine the strategies and challenges around the research and treatment opportunities using stem cells in mentioned center.

An Overview of Stem Cells Applications in Military Medicine
War's nature is constantly changing over time with the progress in military technology and weapons of war, which has led to a diverse pattern of tissue injuries. Developments in personal protective equipment and body armor, rapid transfer from the battlefield to medical centers, improved resuscitation measures, bleeding control, and wound management have increasingly contributed to the wounded ...

Stem cells have been identified and isolated in many adult tissues. They exhibit a great plasticity and the ability to give rise to differentiated cells of several lineages. The possibility of transplantation of these stem cells into an adult to develop, integrate and rebuild destroyed tissues or organs has encouraged the study of the mechanisms of the differentiation of stem cells. These cells...

With the potential to treat a wide range of disease, from organ damage to congenital defects, stem cell research and tissue engineering form the underlying basis of regenerative medicine. Significant advances in the science of skin regeneration, for example, have now made it possible to develop and grow artificial skin grafts in a lab for treatment of burn victims. Other therapeutic application...

Our understanding of stem cells has grown rapidly over the last decade. While the apparently tremendous therapeutic potential of stem cells has not yet been realized, their routine use in regeneration and restoration of tissue and organ function is greatly anticipated. To this end, many investigators continue to push the boundaries in areas such as the reprogramming, the stem cell niche, nanote...

The development of the pancreas and the pancreatic islets has been an area of particular scientific interest over the last several years as our attention has turned toward the possible engineering of progenitor cells and stem cells into pancreatic β cells and pancreatic islets. Pancreatic development is a highly complex process in which two morphologically distinct tissue types must derive from...
