Abstract:

Background: Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease which is not known to be endemic in Iran. Case Report: In October 2015, a 32-year-old Iranian woman was admitted with acute unexplained high-grade fever, headache, pain, rash, diarrhea, leukopenia and elevated liver enzymes after returning from India. Serological and molecular analysis for Dengue virus (DENV) infection revealed positive IgM, negative IgG and positive reverse transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR) Results: PCR product was sequenced and the phylogenetic analysis showed a DENV 2, genotype 4 strain with high similarity to other isolates reported from India. Conclusion: Considering that DENV is one of the most common infections among travelers, an integrated surveillance system is strictly recommended in dengue non endemic countries.

Imported dengue fever/dengue hemorrhagic fever cases in Japan

Several dengue outbreaks occurred in Japan from 1942 to 1945. Dengue fever emerged in Nagasaki in August 1942 and soon spread to other cities such as Sasebo, Hiroshima, Kobe and Osaka, recurring every summer until 1945 and constituting the greatest outbreak in the temperate zone. Domestic outbreaks have not been reported in Japan since then. However, the number of imported dengue cases has incr...

A pediatric case of imported dengue hemorrhagic fever in Japan

We report a case of imported dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in a 10-year-old Philippine boy. The patient was admitted to the hospital with a 4-day history of high fever, headache, and malaise, and a 2-day history of epistaxis and hematemesis. Symptoms deteriorated after admission, and the patient was subsequently diagnosed with DHF. DHF occurs more frequently among cases of reinfection than amo...

Imported Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Europe

To the Editor: Dengue infection is an endemic and epidemic urban disease (1), transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes. Its incidence is increasing in tropical and subtropical areas (1,2) because of 1) introduction of the virus into areas where it was not previously endemic, and 2) the spread of the 4 serotypes and the vector in disease-endemic areas (2,3). Infection with 1 serotype provides li...

[An imported dengue Fever case in Turkey and review of the literature].

Dengue fever is an acute viral disease that can affect all age groups in tropical and subtropical countries. The predominant vectors are the mosquitoes namely Aedes aegypti and A.albopictus. Although there have been no case reports in Turkey due to DF, there is seroepidemiological evidence indicating the presence of Dengue virus (DENV) in Turkey. In this case report we presented an imported den...
