Altered Receptors
author
Abstract:
Receptor disorders may produce specific clinical manifestations resembling hypo-or hyper-function of related endocrine gland. Receptor disorders can be divided into five categories: 1)Altered receptor concentration exists in insulin resistance seen in obsity, familial hypercholesterolemia and in testicular feminization. 2) Altered receptor affinity can be seen in fasted obese patients, acromegaly and insulinoma. 3) Anti-receptor antibodies play an important role in the pathogenesis of Graves' disease, myasthenia gravis and insuline resistance. 4) Specificity spillover, where receptors of one hormone are stimulated by the excess amount of another hormone, is seen in galactorrhea due to acromegaly, hyperthyroidism due to trophorcastic tumors, and in hypoglycemia accompanied non-islet cell tumors. 5) Abnormal receptor-effector coupling is recognized in pseudohypoparathyroidism due to deficiency of the nucleotide regulatory protein involved in adenylate cyclase activation.

Altered retmoic acid receptors
Structurally and functionally altered retinoic acid receptors have been associated with rare human neoplasms: acute promyelocytic leukemia and hepatoceilular carcinoma. Whereas the retinoic acid receptor 13(RAR13) rearrangement in hepatocellular carcinoma is unique, in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), RARU fusion to the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) gene by the t(15;17) translocation is a gen...
full textAltered expression of orexin 1 and endocannabinoid 1 receptors of the hippocampus in three pentylenetetrazol, pilocarpine and kainate seizure models
Introduction: Seizure is synchronous and abnormal brain neuronal activity that leads to activation of different receptors capable of enhancing or suppressing seizure activity such as orexin receptor 1 (OXR1) and/or endocannabinoid receptor 1(CBR1). The time of activation for the receptors may influence seizure control. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the latency for and the change of...
full textAltered Peroxisome-Proliferator Activated Receptors Expression in Human Endometrial Cancer
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) belong to a family of nuclear hormone receptors acting as transcriptional factors, recently involved also in carcinogenesis. Present study was undertaken to evaluate the presence and subcellular localization of different PPAR isoforms (α, β, γ) in healthy endometrial tissue (n = 10) and endometrial carcinoma (FIGO I, endometrioides type, G1, n...
full textRegulation of Primate Angiotensin II Receptors During Altered Sodium Intake
In the rat, angiotensin II receptors of the adrenal glomerulosa and smooth muscle undergo reciprocal regulatory changes that parallel the changes in target cell sensitivity to angiotensin II during altered sodium intake. In primates, the relative importance of angiotensin II receptor regulation during sodium-induced changes in angiotensin II sensitivity is not clear. To evaluate the role of ang...
full textAltered expression of sex hormone receptors in keratoconus corneas
Introduction: Keratoconus is an ectasia that results in corneal thinning in central and paracentral areas of affected corneas. This disease occurs most frequently in young males, underlying a potential role of sex hormones in its pathogenesis. By examining the expression of sex hormone receptors, this study aimed to reveal potential roles of the sex hormone receptors in keratoconus pathogenesis...
