Allelic Variation of MYF5 Gene Detected in the Camelus bactrianus
Authors
Abstract:
The myogenic factors (MYF) 5 gene has been reported to contribute to muscle growth and development, therefore they are considered as candidate genes for growth and meat quality related traits. The MYF5 gene is expressed during proliferation of myoblasts and comprises 3 exons. To ascertain whether there is any variation in the camel MYF5 gene, we have used a polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) method for the analysis. In this study, coding region (exon 1) of the MYF5gene was investigated. Four unique SSCP patterns were detected in exon 1. Two Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected - A/G and G/A in 98 and 366 position, respectively that create four haplotype, related to banding patterns. The variations detected in this study leads to a serin/asparagine and tryptophan/stop codon amino acid changes, respectively and could be considered for the development of gene-assisted selection in camel breeding.

Monophyletic origin of domestic bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) and its evolutionary relationship with the extant wild camel (Camelus bactrianus ferus)
The evolutionary relationship between the domestic bactrian camel and the extant wild two-humped camel and the factual origin of the domestic bactrian camel remain elusive. We determined the sequence of mitochondrial cytb gene from 21 camel samples, including 18 domestic camels (three Camelus bactrianus xinjiang, three Camelus bactrianus sunite, three Camelus bactrianus alashan, three Camelus b...

Ovarian follicle response and corpus luteum formation following induction of ovulation using gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues and luteinizing hormone (LH) in Bactrian camel were characterized. Bactrian camels with a mature follicle (13-19.6 mm) received: 1) natural porcine LH (25 mg, IV, n = 4), 2) Buserelin (20 μg, IV, n = 4) and 3) Alarelin (25 μg, IM, n = 4). Daily ultrasonogr...
full textIdentification of SNPs and their validation in camel (Camelus bactrianus and Camelus dromedarius)
The dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) and the bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) are among the last species that have been domesticated around 3000–6000 years ago. To understand relationship between genetic and phenotypic variations in camel, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers covering the coding part of genome were developed. These gene-associated SNPs can themselves be causative SNPs...

Interspecies embryo transfer is a possible approach that can be used to conserve endangered species. It could provide a useful technique to preserve the Iranian and wild Bactrian camels, both of which are threatened with extinction. In the present study, one Bactrian camel was superovulated using decreasing doses of FSH (60, 40, 30, 30, 20, 20 mg, b.i.d.; Folltropin-V; Bioniche, London, ON, Can...
