Abstract:

Introduction: One of the protective concepts in the interpretation of radiation damage in radiobiology is the radioadaptive response. The objective of this present report is to evaluate the induction of radioadaptive response in male rats by injection of pre-irradiated serum with low doses X-radiation intraperitoneally.   Materials and Methods: 80 male adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups include control (sham exposed), serum control (injected blood serum of non-irradiated rats), low dose(100cGy), low dose/lethal (100cGy then 8Gy), serum/lethal(injected blood serum of irradiated rats+8Gy). and lethal(8Gy). In this study, we have monitored the end points of survival rate; the first stages, rats were exposed to low doses of radiation (100cGy), then, the serum was injected intraperitoneally under sterile conditions and under the laminar hood 6hour after low dose exposure. The Kaplan Meier Survival Curve was used to evaluate survival rate in the studied groups p< 0.05 is considered as significant between groups. Results: We found that there was a significant difference between the survival rates in different groups. There were no deaths in the control, serum and low dose groups at 13, 18, and 22 days after the start of the experiment and survival rates was 100%. Statistically significant difference between low dose/lethal and low dose/serum, low dose/lethal and lethal, and low dose /serum and lethal (p=0.001). Likewise, the data confirm that a statistically significant difference between survival rates of the rats in control and test groups was observed (p=0.001). Conclusion: In conclusion, this Study showed that exposure to low dose radiation and then serum injection to adapting group may induce a significant survival adaptive response.

Radiation hormesis and adoptive response induced by low doses of limiting radiation

Ionizing radiation has long been known to produce detrimental biological effects. Although these harmful effects are the results of high doses of exposure, some other maladies such as mutation and cancer seems  to be induced at low doses of exposure. In recent decades, however, some pioneer scientists have indicated that ionizing radiation like many other essential agents has toxic effects  ...

Chronological response of prostacyclin changes to moderately low doses of radiation in Rat cervical spinal cord

Background: Study of vascular and its secretory profile changes is an important issue in pathogenesis of radiation myelopathy. This paper reports the prostacyclin concentration changes after low-moderate doses of X-irradiation within a short period of time. Materials and Methods: Cervical cords of Wistar rats were irradiated to doses of 0.5, 1, 2, 4 and 6 Gy X-rays. After 24 hours, 2 and 13 ...

Estimating cancer risks from low doses of ionizing radiation.

Disagreements about the somatic risks from low doses of ionizing radiation stem from two difficulties fundamental to the logic of inference from observational data. First, precise direct estimation of small risks requires impracticably large samples. Second, precise estimates of low-dose risks based largely on high-dose data, for which the sample size requirements are more easily satisfied, mus...

Do Low Doses of Ionizing Radiation Affect the Human Brain?

The aim of this paper is to analyze the current evidence on radiocerebral effects following exposure to <5 Sv. Dose-related cognitive and neurophysiological abnormalities among prenatally exposed children after the Chernobyl accident at gestation ages of +8 weeks were revealed at >20 mSv on the fetus and >300 mSv on the thyroid in utero; at 16–25 weeks, abnormalities were >10 mSv and >200 mSv, ...

Transcriptional response of human umbilical vein endothelial cells to low doses of ionizing radiation.

We used cDNA microarray hybridization technology to monitor the transcriptional response of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial (HUVEC) cells to x-rays doses ranging from 2 to 200 cGy. An early time window from irradiation (4h) was selected in order to minimize the effects of the cell cycle blockage eventually induced at high doses of irradiation. Three different gene-clustering algorithms have be...

study the effects of low level laser diode on no production and healing of diabetic and cortisone acetate and normal wounded sd rats

nitric oxide (no) is a small molecule synthesized by most of mammalian cells with diverse biological activities including vasodilatation, host defense and wound healing. impaired wound healing is a common occurrence among diabetics and patients receiving glucocorticoid therapy. on the other hand the application of laser in biomedical area have been increased. thus, the current studies were desi...
