Action mirroring and action understanding in children
author
Abstract:
The past decade has experienced an increasing interest in action underestanding and children’s mirroring of others’ behavior. Behavioral investigations have focused on the development and significance of mimicry, goal prediction and imitation. Others have focused on the neural basis of action mirroring, identifying particular electrophysiological markers or related brain regions. A vivid debate concerns the functional mechanisms that subseries and lead to action mirroring, others have suggested that action mirroring is the consequence of higher-level processes, Finally, the consequences of action mirroring for social functioning have been discussed with respect to its role in action understanding and fostering social relations. This article is an overview of the concepts of action underestanding and action mirroring of children, the neural, cognitive and social basis mechanisms, the evolution and, the way to measure and evaluate, and also review the outlines of recent researchers' comments and claims in This field. The effects and application of mirroring in the development of social perception and social recognition in the process of child development are discussed.

Mirroring and the development of action understanding.
The discovery of mirror neurons in the monkey motor cortex has inspired wide-ranging hypotheses about the potential relationship between action control and social cognition. In this paper, we consider the hypothesis that this relationship supports the early development of a critical aspect of social understanding, the ability to analyse others' actions in terms of goals. Recent investigations o...
full textHow does "mirroring" support joint action?
The discovery of mirror neurons (e.g., Gallese et al., 1996) has reignited interest in theories that postulate a tight functional link between perception and action. According to these theories, perception and action share a common representational code, with actions coded in terms of the distal perceptual effects that they produce (Prinz, 1997). Accordingly, action representations should be ac...

Objectives: Nouns and verbs are the central conceptual linguistic units of language acquisition in all human languages. While the noun-bias hypothesis claims that nouns have a privilege in children’s lexical development across languages, studies on Mandarin and Korean and other languages have challenged this view. More recent cross-linguistic naming studies on children in German, Turkish,...
full textModeling Super Mirroring Functionality in Action Execution, Imagination, Mirroring, and Imitation
In this paper a cognitive agent model is presented that on the one hand incorporates multiple functions of preparation states such as mirroring an observed action of another agent, imitation of another agent’s action, or imagining an action, and on the other hand incorporates a super mirroring function enabling the agent to keep track of the context of a mental process such as, mirroring anothe...
full textDAPs: Deep Action Proposals for Action Understanding
Object proposals have contributed significantly to recent advances in object understanding in images. Inspired by the success of this approach, we introduce Deep Action Proposals (DAPs), an effective and efficient algorithm for generating temporal action proposals from long videos. We show how to take advantage of the vast capacity of deep learning models and memory cells to retrieve from untri...
