Abstract:

In this paper, the acoustic wave propagation in multilayer Thue-Morse structures has theoretically been studied. The composing layers were assumed do be Cu, Al, Mgo and Pb materials. Two, three or four different materials have been used in a typical structure. By using a perpendicular incident acoustic wave, the transmission coefficient was calculated and then by its old, the frequency gaps wasinvestigated. These structures can have different applications such as acoustic filters, acoustic insulations, acoustic diodes, etc. it is shown that the quantization of the transmission coefficient with respect to the number of layers in an assumed structure, can be utilized to use minimize the materials used in an experiment to fabricate a structure with the desired frequency gap. Now, the frequency gaps and their positions on the frequency axis are tunable by using the Thue-Morse structures. Finally, the effects of the number of layers, total system length, material type and the arrangement of the layers on the frequency filtering have been studied. It is also shown that the 4-material systems can filter a wider range of frequencies than the 3-material ones and 3-material systems can filter a wider range of frequencies than the 2-material ones.

Application of the Wave Propagation Approach to Sandwich Structures: Vibro-Acoustic Properties of Aluminum Honeycomb Materials

Sandwich structures are manufactured using multiple combinations of materials for core and laminates. The real performances are influenced by variability in the composing layers and even by the uncertainties introduced while bonding them together. Therefore, experimental tests are usually the preferred way to assess the most important parameters required to develop and to characterize the produ...

Wave localization in generalized Thue-Morse superlattices with disorder

In order to study an influence of correlations on the localization properties of classical waves in random superlattices we introduce a generalized random Thue-Morse model as a four-state Markov process with two parameters that determine probabilities of different configurations. It is shown that correlations can bring about a considerable change in the transmission properties of the structures...

Plane Wave Propagation Through a Planer Slab

An approximation technique is considered for computing transmission and reflection coefficients for propagation of an elastic pulse through a planar slab of finite width. The propagation of elastic pulse through a planar slab is derived from first principles using straightforward time-dependent method. The paper ends with calculations of enhancement factor for the elastic plane wave and it is s...

Acoustic wave propagation in materials with strain dependent dielectric constant

2014 It is shown that the application of an external temperature gradient across the materials with strain dependent dielectric constant can lead to amplify an acoustic wave even when the drift velocity of the electrons is less than the velocity of sound.
