Accuracy of SPECT bone scintigraphy in diagnosis of meniscal tears
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Scintigraphy has been considered as a useful tool in the assessment of meniscal tears. Our objective was to assess the accuracy of single photon emission tomography (SPECT), using MRI as the gold standard, in the diagnosis of meniscal tears. Materials and Methods: Between January 2003 and February 2005, 45 patients were studied with SPECT and MRI. Results: The respective sensitivity rate, specificity rate, and positive and negative predictive accuracies of SPECT were 78 %, 88 %, 80 %, and 86 %. Conclusion: SPECT is a valuable imaging technique and could be considered as competitive for MRI in diagnosis of meniscal tears. SPECT is specially a useful alternative when MRI is unavailable or unsuitable and it is beneficial when more possible accuracy is desired (when MRI results are either inconclusive or contradict with other clinical data).

full textComparison of SPECT bone scintigraphy with MRI for diagnosis of meniscal tears
BACKGROUND Scintigraphy has been considered as competitive to MRI, but limited data are available on the accuracy of single photon emission tomography (SPECT) compared with MRI for the assessment of meniscal tears. Our objective was to assess the value of SPECT in comparison to MRI. METHODS Between January 2003 and March 2004, sixteen patients were studied with both modalities and the accurac...
full textUsefulness of three-phase bone scintigraphy and SPECT/CT for the diagnosis of bone lesions of systemic sarcoidosis
We report a three-phase bone scintigraphy for the diagnosis of a peripheral bone lesion caused by systemic sarcoidosis. A 32-year-old man with suspected osteomyelitis of the right forefinger underwent three-phase bone scintigraphy with Tc-99m hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HMDP) and single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT). The lesion was rich in blood flow acc...
full textSPECT/CT imaging in bone scintigraphy of a case of clavicular osteoma
Osteoma is a benign bone-forming tumor that usually arises in the craniofacial bones and rarely in the long bones. Clavicular involvement is extremely rare. We report a 51-year-old woman with osteoma of the left clavicle. Radiograph of the left shoulder showed a well-defined lobulated blastic mass in the proximal and mid-portion of the left clavicle. Bone scintigraphy was performed 4 hours afte...
