Abstract:

Gully erosion found to be typical erosion form in semiarid and arid landscape. Because of the importance of this phenomenon, various studies have been conducted around the world to assess gully erosion and its effects. The purpose of this research was accuracy assessment of gully erosion susceptibility maps using SVM and MARS models in the Shazand watershed. Acquiring information about the gully erosion occurred in the study area was done. Locations of the gullies were specified using Landsat satellite images, google earth and field surveys. After gully erosion susceptibility mapping using mentioned models, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC) were used to assess accuracy of these maps. The AUC for the SVM and MARS models obtained 0.781 and 0.697 respectively. Results of accuracy assessment show that accuracy of SVM and MARS models is located into the good and moderate class respectively. The research results can be a useful tool to manage natural resources and environment and also reduction of soil degradation.

Gully Erosion Susceptibility Assessment using Multivariate Regression Model (Case Study: Kiasar, Southern Mazandaran Province)

Gully erosion when it comes to positive processes in the most severe operating conditions and the most favorable conditions for the performance of other words is a positive process. One of the most important issues discussed gully erosion monitoring and evaluation of benchmarking is to extract and identify the type of erosion. In this paper the groove factor and drainage ditches, and selected a...

Combination of morphometric parameters and land cover for assessment of soil erosion susceptibility using COPRAS model in lavasanat watershed

Soil erosion is one of the major environmental problems worldwide. Morphometric and landcover  analysis provides a platform for quick and efficient watershed management In the present study, morphometric parameters have been coupled with land cover classes to assess soil erosion susceptibility of sub-watersheds of  lavasanat watershed. The data used in this study included Advanced Space borne T...

Gully Erosion after Wildfire

Predicting runoff and erosion from watersheds burned by wildfires requires an understanding of the spatial structure of both hillslope and channel drainage networks. We investigate the small-scale and large-scale structures of drainage networks using field studies and computer analysis of 30-m digital elevation model. Topologic variables were derived from a composite 30-m DEM, which included 14...

Comparison of EPM and geomorphology methods for erosion and sediment yield assessment in Kasilian Watershed, Mazandaran Province, Iran

Evaluation of Sediment yield in watershed scale is considered so important for implementation of soil conservation, watershed management, environment, dam construction and water resource management. Using empirical model is one of the approaches of evaluating Sediment yield. This research in Kasilian watershed evaluates Sediment yield by using Geomorphology method and EPM model with Arc View GI...
