Abundance of native fish in Anzali Wetland and their conservation necessary
author
Abstract:
Anzali Wetland is one of the most important wetland in southern Caspian Sea where more than 45 endemic and native fish species were reported. In this study, distribution, abundance and IUCN category of fish species were investigated in Anzali Wetalnd during 2016-2017 according to research fishing and local fishermen data. The result showed that 45 fish species belong to 13 families exist in Anzali Wetland. The highest species diversity belongs to Cyprinidae and Gobiidae families with 25 and 6 species respectively. There was distinguished 4 groups of fish consisting freshwater resident, Anadromous, estuarine and multi-habitat. Gambusia holbrooki, Carassius gibelio, Hemiculter leucisculus, Blicca bjoerkna and Rhodeus caspius were made 22. 8, 19. 7, 12. 1, 10. 1 and 8. 4% of total caught number, respectively. According to all data, the IUCN groups of Anzali Wetland fishes were categorized as 10 species in least concern, 10 species vulnerable, 5 species endangered and 6 species critically endangered. The protection of fish in Anzali wetland needs more attention and is necessary implementation of rehabilitation programs such as reducing the entry of various pollutants into the wetland, controlling invasive aquatic plants, sediment control, rehabilitating spawning sites and avoiding illegal fishing. Artificial propagation of endangered and critically endangered fish should be done for helping the fish for some years.

Parasite communities of pike (Esox lucius L. 1758) were calculated in Anzali Wetland along with evaluating their impacts on biometric characticties of the fish host. A total of 4338 parasites from 11 diferent species were identified including: Ichthyophthirius mutifiliis (21.88%); Trichodina sp. (8.59%); Henneguya sp. (0.78%); Tetraonchus monenteron (60.94%); Diplostomum spathaceum (23.44%);...
full textNative Fish Conservation Areas: A Vision for Large-Scale Conservation of Native Fish Communities
The status of freshwater fishes continues to decline despite substantial conservation efforts to reverse this trend and recover threatened and endangered aquatic species. Lack of success is partially due to working at smaller spatial scales and focusing on habitats and species that are already degraded. Protecting entire watersheds and aquatic communities, which we term “native fish conservatio...
full textRemarkable amphibian biomass and abundance in an isolated wetland: implications for wetland conservation.
Despite the continuing loss of wetland habitats and associated declines in amphibian populations, attempts to translate wetland losses into measurable losses to ecosystems have been lacking. We estimated the potential productivity from the amphibian community that would be compromised by the loss of a single isolated wetland that has been protected from most industrial, agricultural, and urban ...
full textIncreasing the Abundance of Rare Native Wetland Prairie Species
Native prairies of the Willamette Valley are considered among the rarest of Oregon’s ecosystems and are in critical need of conservation. Management strategies for increasing the abundance of native species are urgently needed, particularly those strategies that promote the regeneration of native species from seed. Fire may be an important factor in promoting regeneration of native species from...

organochlorine compounds such as, polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine pesticides are among the best known classes of contaminants because of their potential for magnification and harmful biological effects. in this study, the amounts of organochlorine pesticides including d.d.t and its metabolites, α, β and γ-hchs isomers, σcyclodiene (endosulfan, heptachlor, heotachlor epoxide, aldrin...
