Abstract:

Introduction: Natural volcanic ash soil is one of minerals whose major contents are metal oxides. In this study absorption of copper (Cu2+) and nickel (Ni2+) on natural volcanic ash soil has been investigated at 27±1c as a function of PH, metal concentration, contact time and the amount of sorbet, using batch experiments. Methods: The necessary samples of natural volcanic ashes were collected from Anar region in Kerman province, Iran. The samples were analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative methods. In qualitative method, Gile’s classification and in quantitative method, Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used. Results: Both Langmuir and Freundlich models described the Cu2+ and Ni2+ absorption processes adequately, with correlation coefficient (R2) values ranging from 0.97-0.99. The results show that equilibrium is reached quickly, indicating that the adsorption sites are well exposed. The increase in initial metal ions concentration decreased the percent adsorption and increased the amount of metals uptake perunit weight of the sorbet (mg/g). Conclusion: The results indicated that the absorption capacity of the volcanic ash soil increased with an increase in the pH. The uptake of copper was found to be greater than nickel

Biosorption of Cu2+ from aqueous solutions by pretreated Cladosporium sp.

In this paper, adsorption properties of a pretreated of Cladosporium sp. for Cu2 were studied. The fungi pretreated with some chemical reagents exhibited higher Cu2+ removal capacities than native biomass. The optimum chemical reagent was 0.2M NaOH. After 0.2M NaOH pretreatment, optimum conditions of biosorption were found to be pH 5.0, temperature 35 degrees C, and stirring speed of 100rpm. Eq...

Adsorption of copper, lead and cadmium from aqueous solutions by activated carbon prepared from saffron leaves

Background: Industrial development has caused the release of various pollutants including heavy metals into the environment. These toxic compounds are extremely dangerous to living beings and the environment due to their non-biodegradability, severe toxicity, carcinogenicity, the ability to be accumulated in nature and the ability to contaminate groundwater and surface water. The aim of the pre...

Removal of copper (II) from aqueous solutions by sodium alginate/hydroxy apatite hydrogel modified by Zeolite

The study presented in this article investigated the removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions by a synthetic hydrogel-forming adsorbent polymer based on sodium alginate (SA) and hydroxy apatite (HA) nanoparticles. The effect of adding Zeolite on the adsorption performance of this hydrogel was also investigated, and the optimum amount of Zeolite was determined by changing its quantity. The ...
