Quasi-Experimental designs for quality improvement research

Presentation Quality Improvement (QI) research may be defined as “the design, development and evaluation of complex interventions aimed at the re-design of health care systems to produce improved outcomes”. The challenge of QI lies in bridging the gap between knowing what needs to happen at an individual patient level and implementing this at a systems level. The inherent complexity of systems ...

Experimental and quasi-experimental designs for evaluating guideline implementation strategies.

The choice of study design for guideline implementation studies will determine the confidence with which the observed effects can be attributed to the interventions under study. In general, cluster randomized trials, of which there are different types, provide the most robust design. However, the use of these designs has implications for the power, conduct and analysis of studies. Wherever poss...

A note on quasi-symmetric designs

A quasi-symmetric design is a (v, k, λ) design with two intersection numbers x, y where 0 ≤ x < y < k. We show that for fixed x, y, λ with x > 1, λ > 1, y = λ and λ (4xy + ((y − x) − 2x− 2y + 1)λ) a perfect square of a positive integer, there exist finitely many quasi-symmetric designs. We rule out the possibilities of quasi-symmetric designs corresponding to y = x + 3 and (λ, x) = (9, 2), (8, ...

Tutorial on Quasi-sparse Eigenvector Diagonalization

Quasi-sparse eigenvector (QSE) diagonalization is a new computational method which finds the low-lying eigenvalues and eigenvectors for a general quantum field Hamiltonian . It is able to handle the exponential increase in the size of Fock space for large systems by exploiting the sparsity of the Hamiltonian. QSE diagonalization can even be applied directly to infinitedimensional systems. The m...
