Abstract:

Backgrounds: Subclinical ketosis can cause greater economic loss due to a lack of clinical symptoms. Objectives: The present study was aimed to design a chemical method for measuring serum ketone bodies in the affected subclinical cows. Methods: Acetoacetate concentrations were measured using a nitroprusside reaction and b-hydroxy butyric acid (BHBA) which was oxidized to acetoacetate using nanosilver particles to determine its concentration. Recovery tests were done for different concentrations of betahydroxy butyrate in bovine pooled serum. Results: Actoacetate levels were in range of 0.1-6 mM, and the values for BHBA were found to be in the range of 0.125-3 mM. Conclusions: It was concluded that this technique can be considered as a simple method for measuring ketone bodies in biological fluids. A Novel Method for Measuring the Quality of Temporal Integration in Public Transport Systems

Temporal coordination of services, as a crucial aspect of integration in public transport systems, has always been a big concern for transit planners and schedulers. One of the major issues in the way of coordinating transit services is the lack of a robust measure of effectiveness for assessing the quality of temporal coordination in public transport systems. Even though the network-wide summa...

The therapeutic implications of ketone bodies: the effects of ketone bodies in pathological conditions: ketosis, ketogenic diet, redox states, insulin resistance, and mitochondrial metabolism.

The effects of ketone body metabolism suggests that mild ketosis may offer therapeutic potential in a variety of different common and rare disease states. These inferences follow directly from the metabolic effects of ketosis and the higher inherent energy present in d-beta-hydroxybutyrate relative to pyruvate, the normal mitochondrial fuel produced by glycolysis leading to an increase in the D...

A novel boundary condition for the simulation of the submerged bodies using lattice boltzmann method

In this study, we proposed a novel scheme for the implementation of the no-slip boundary condition in thelattice Boltzmann method (LBM) . In detail , we have substituted the classical bounce-back idea by the direct immersed boundary specification . In this way we construct the equilibrium density functions in such a way that it feels the no-slip boundaries . Therefore , in fact a kind of equili...

Novel solid-phase assay of ketone bodies in urine.

This simple dip-and-read color-matching assay measures ketone bodies in urine. The result is matched with any of the seven colors provided in a color chart. The intensity and hue of the color formed depends on the concentration of acetoacetic acid and follows a gradation starting from light purple (0.2 mol/L acetoacetate) to dark purple and finally to dark violet (9 mol/L). The color developed ...
