Abstract:

It is of great importance to consider long-term stability of rock mass around the openings of underground structure, during design, construction and operation of the said structures in rock. In this context, three methods namely, empirical, analytical and numerical have been applied to design and analyze the stability of underground infrastructure at the Siah Bisheh Pumping Storage Hydro-Electric Power Project (HEPP) in Iran. The geological and geotechnical data utilized in this article were selected and based on the preliminary studies of this project. In the initial stages of design, it was recommended that, two methods of rock mass classification Q and RMR should be utilized for the support system of the underground cavern. Next, based on the structural instability, the support system was adjusted by the analytical method. The performance of the recommended support system was reviewed by the comparison of the ground response curve and rock support interactions with surrounding rock mass, using FEST03 software. Moreover, for further assessment of the realistic rock mass behavior and support system, the numerical modeling was performed utilizing FEST03software. Finally both the analytical and numerical methods were compared, to obtain satisfactory results complimenting each other.

Laboratory and Numerical Modelling of a Jointed Rock Mass

Laboratory tests were performed on 54 large size specimens of jointed rock mass under uniaxial loading conditions. Based on this experimental study, a methodology has been suggested to estimate strength and tangent modulus of rock masses through a weakness coefficient. The methodology involves mapping of joints in the field and laboratory testing of intact rock specimens to arrive at rock mass ...

Jointed Rock Mass Effects on the Seismic Waves Scattering from the Canyon Sites in the Dam's Support

Seismic study of canyon sites has always been one of the important fields of seismic studies because of massive structures such as dams that are built in such sites. Jointed rock mass in rock canyon sites is one of the main site effects that can change the seismic waves. In this research, we studied the influence of this factor on the scattering of seismic waves. To fulfil this goal, we employe...

Elastic-plastic Analysis of Jointed Rock Mass Using Meshless Method

Analysis of rock masses with plenty of weakness planes and joints with numerical methods based on meshes encounters difficulties. In the analysis when even only a few meshes are involved, mesh generation can consume more time and effort compared to the construction and solution of the discrete set of equations. Continuous remeshing of the domain in order to avoid the break down of the calculati...

Study on the Constitutive Model for Jointed Rock Mass

A new elasto-plastic constitutive model for jointed rock mass, which can consider the persistence ratio in different visual angle and anisotropic increase of plastic strain, is proposed. The proposed the yield strength criterion, which is anisotropic, is not only related to friction angle and cohesion of jointed rock masses at the visual angle but also related to the intersection angle between ...

estimating the deformation modulus of jointed rock mass under multilateral loading condition using analytical methods

rndetermination of rock mass deformation modulus is very important in different projects, especially in civil and mining engineering works. in-situ measurements such as dilatometer, plate load and flat jack methods may be applied to determine the deformation modulus. however, these methods are very expensive and time- consuming. analytical methods are very useful approaches which can also be us...

A Novel Design of Reversible Multiplier Circuit (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Adders and multipliers are two main units of the computer arithmetic processors and play an important role in reversible computations. The binary multiplier consists of two main parts, the partial products generation circuit (PPGC) and the reversible parallel adders (RPA). This paper introduces a novel reversible 4×4 multiplier circuit that is based on an advanced PPGC with Peres gates only. Ag...
