Authors
Abstract:
A comparison of the impact strength between Acropars and Meliodent acrylic resins Dr. F. Golbidi* - Dr. A. Meghdadi** *-Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics Dept. – Faculty of Dentistry – Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. **-Dentist. Background and Aim: One of the mostly used materials in removable prostheses are acrylic resins with various physical and mechanical properties. The impact strength of acrylic resins plays an important role in treatment success. The aim of this study was to compare the impact strength of Iranian made Acropars acrylic resin with British Standard as well as with Meliodent acrylic resin confirmed by American Dental Association (ADA). Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 15 cubic rectangular shape samples of each acryles were prepared. The dimensions of these samples were 50×6×4 mm. All measurements were performed using plastic impact tester. Data were analyzed by t – test. Results: The means of impact strengths were 1.21 kj/m2 and 1-39 kj/m2 for Acropars and Meliodent acrylic resins, respectively showing statistically significant difference between these two materials (P=0.26). Both of them were in the limitation of British Standard (at least 0.8 kj/m2). Conclusion: There is no significant difference in impact strength between Acropars and Meliodent acryles and both of these materials comply with the requirements of British Standard (No:2487) Key words: Impact strength – Acrylic resins

Comparison of Water Sorption of Two Injection Acrylic Resins with a Conventional Pressure-Packed Acrylic Resin
Background and Aim: Water sorption is one of the most important properties that affects the quality of a prosthesis, and subsequently, the quality of treatment, and pa-tient’s quality of life. The aim of this study was to determine and compare the water sorption of two types of poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) using the injection-molding systems with a traditional acrylic resin base material. OBJECTIVES This study evaluated the impact and flexural strength and analyzed the fracture behavior of acrylic resins. METHODS Eighteen rectangular specimens were fabricated of Lucitone 550, QC 20 (both unreinforced acrylic resins), Impact 1500 (extra strength impact), Impact 2000 (high impact) according to the manufacturers' instructions. The impact strength was evaluated in notched specimen...
