A Case Report of a Second-Trimester Stillbirth‎ in a Pregnant Woman with SARS-CoV-2 Infection

The most important risk factors for fetal health in humans are maternal infections, that the majority of which are caused by viral agents. Viruses are one of the most contagious infectious agents that can cause many complex and irreversible complications, including; growth disorders, calcification, microcephaly, and fetal death. Recently, with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the number of pregnant women with COVID-19 is also increasing. Coronaviruses (CoV) can cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases, which are expected to increase in pregnant women, because they are at an immunosuppressive state and physiological adaptive changes during pregnancy can render them intolerant to hypoxia and endanger fetal life. In this article, a second-trimester stillbirth‎ in a 23-year-old pregnant woman with SARS-CoV-2 infection, was reported. On initial examination by a gynecologist, ordered her to be hospitalized to perform a UTI test and check for possible kidney infection, owing to symptoms of fever and complaints of abdominal pain. An ultrasound revealed health of the fetus an hours after the motherchr('39')s hospitalized. But the next morning, during the examination, symptoms of severe acute respiratory observed in the mother, and the fetal heart rate was not heard. During an emergency operation, the motherchr('39')s lung was scanned and infection of her with novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), was confirmed.
