Authors
Abstract:

full textAntioxidant activity, total phenolic content and flavonoid concentrations of different plant parts of Teucrium polium L. subsp. polium
Recently, there is growing interest in finding naturally occurring antioxidants for use in foods or medicinal materials to replace synthetic antioxidants, which are being restricted due to their carcinogenicity [1]. Antioxidants are secondary constituents or metabolites found naturally in plants. They are mainly phenolics serving in plant defense mechanisms to counteract reactive oxygen species...
full textTeucrium polium: Liver and kidney effects
| May 2014 | 478 plants have been shown to produce oxidative stress and toxicity.[15-17] This toxicity inclines to be more common among certain patients and in specifi c clinical conditions. Thus, knowledge about successful prevention or amelioration of a medicinal drug requires information about pathogenic mechanisms of kidney damage and related risk factors.[1,8,18,19] In this regard, to be e...
full textRemarkable Anticancer Activity of Teucrium polium on Hepatocellular Carcinogenic Rats
The term cancer has been concomitant with despair, agony, and dreadful death. Like many other diseases, herbal therapy has been used to prevent or suppress cancer. The present study investigated the capability of the decoction of Teucrium polium L. from Lamiaceae family to protect liver cells against hepatocellular carcinoma in carcinogenesis-induced animal model. After 28 weeks of treatment wi...
full textBiodiversity characteristics of Teucrium polium species in Saudi Arabia.
Teucrium (Lamiaceae) is a large and polymorphic genus distributed mainly in Europe, North Africa and in the temperate parts of Asia. In this study, the anatomical features of the leaf and stem of Teucrium polium are investigated. Teucrium has 19 taxa in Iran, which mainly grow in the Irano-Turanian region between 700 and 2000 m above sea level. T. polium belonging to sect. Polium, is a perennia...
full textIdioblastic Mucilage Cells in Teucrium Polium Leaf. Anatomy and Histochemistry
In the mesophyll of Teucrium polium L. leaves, isolated or grouped idioblastic secretory cells occur in contact with the distal (adaxial) vessel elements of the vascular bundles. They appear to originate from one or more bundle sheath cells and their intracellular space is entirely occupied by the secretory material. The latter has a glycoproteinaceous constitution (mucilage), as histochemical ...
