عنوان: Impact of Care Program on Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Incidence: A Clinical Trial
Authors
Abstract:
چکیده: Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the common problems in patients who are under mechanical ventilation and increases the hospitalization duration and treatment expenses. The current study was conducted to determine the impact of a care program on VAP. Methods: This clinical trial was performed on intubated patients who were under mechanical ventilation in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of teaching hospitals in Zahedan, Iran in 2015. Seventy patients were selected through convenience method and were assigned into two groups of 35 people as the control and intervention groups. The care program was executed for three days in the intervention group. Pneumonia incidence was evaluated by the Modified Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score (MCPIS) both pre- and post-intervention. The data were analyzed by independent t-test and Chi-square test. Results: Pneumonia did not occur in the intervention group, while VAP occurred in 54% of the patients of the control group. The Chi-square test demonstrated a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.001). Conclusion: Preventive interventions might be beneficial in reducing the occurrence of VAP when executed as a regular caring package for the patients. Therefore, these therapies are recommended as a nursing intervention in ICUs.

The Effect of a Designed Respiratory Care Program on the Incidence of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia: A Clinical Trial
INTRODUCTION Ventilator-associated pneumonia is a common complication of mechanical ventilation. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of designed respiratory care program on incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in the mechanically ventilated patient. METHODS In this clinical trial, 64 patients were selected among those who had undergone mechanical ventilation in the ICU of Al...
full textClinical Assessment of Nursing Care Regarding Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in Neonates
Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the second common nosocomial infection in NICUs leading to some complications. Nurses are one of the main resources in health care that directly influence neonatal health care. Responsibility of most of preventive strategies related to VAP complications lies with nurses; therefore, nursing care should be assessed until the nurses show standar...
full textComparing the Effects of Orthodentol and Chlorhexidine Mouthwash on Prevention of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Patients of Intensive Care Unit: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
Background and Aim: Ventilator-associated pneumonia is a common, serious and costly complication in patients of intensive care units. Oral hygiene is one of the important clinical measures to reduce the amount of pulmonary infection in these patients. Therefore, this study compares the effects of chlorhexidine and orthodontal mouthwashes on prevention of pulmonary infection in patients with end...

OBJECTIVE To reduce ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) incidence rate, lessen the cost of care, and correlate VAP bundles compliance with VAP incidence rate. METHODS This study was a prospective longitudinal study conducted on adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients at Hera General Hospital, Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from January to December 2010. The following Institute for Healthc...
full texteffect of intermittent subglottic secretion drainage on ventilator‑associated pneumonia: a clinical trial
abstract background: secretions contaminated with oral, nasal, and gastric bacteria accumulate in the subglottic space, above the endotracheal tube cuff. if these secretions are aspirated into lower airways, the intubated patient will be susceptible to ventilator‑associated pneumonia (vap). the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of inspiratory pause maneuver for intermittent subglo...
full textStrategies for the Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in the Intensive Care Units: A Review
Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) accounts for 80%-90% of hospital-acquired pneumonia cases in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). VAP occurs 48-72 hours after intubation, and is observed in 27%-29% of patients with endotracheal tube, and its risk increases with the increase in the duration of mechanical ventilation. In this review study, papers published from 1996-2018 were used to investigate st...
