تحکیم و توسعه دولت خوارزمشاهی در عهد آتسز (522- 551 ه.ق)

Abstract:
یکی از ادوار سرنوشت‌ساز در تاریخ سلسله خوارزمشاهی، دوران حکومت آتسز بن محمّد است. تقارن حکومت آتسز با دوره سلطنت سلطان سنجر سلجوقی، و وقوع حوادثی همچون فزونی تنش در روابط سلطان سلجوقی با خلافت، شورش در ماوراءالنهر علیه سنجر، هجوم قرا ختاییان به قلمرو سلجوقی، زمینه را برای تحکیم و توسعه دولت خوارزمشاهی فراهم کرد. آتسز نیز با خصایص شخصیتی ویژه و با بهره‌مندی از حمایت اهالی خوارزم و ایلات نومسلمان قبچاق، به توسعه قدرت خود پرداخته و در زمان گرفتاری سلطان سلجوقی به مداخله در خراسان و ماوراءالنهر روی می‌آورد، اما در زمان تقابل سلطان سلجوقی، به اظهار اطاعت و سوگند وفاداری نسبت به وی متوسّل می‌شد. بعد از جنگ قطوان و ناکامی در تصرّف خراسان نیز کوشید تا با اظهار اطاعت نسبت به هر دو دولت سلجوقی و قراختایی و با استفاده از توازن قوا میان آن دو، قدرت خود را از گزند آن‌ها مصون دارد. این مقاله در پی آن است که ضمن تبیین زمینه‌های تحکیم و توسعه قدرت خوارزمشاهیان در عهد آتسز، تکاپوهای او در این رابطه را با تأکید بر عوامل اثرگذار بر آن، موردبررسی قرار دهد
