Abstract:

Background and Objectives: In Iran, rainbow trout farms exist in almost all provinces. Viral hemorrhagic septicemia is one of the most important infectious diseases of the rainbow trout which is a serious threat to the farming industry. This study was conducted to investigate outbreaks in 2014 and identify important determinants of the agent entry and disease occurrence in the farms. Methods: Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and the disease was detected based on clinical signs and laboratory investigations by PCR methods. Results: During 52 weeks of the study in 2014, 114 of 1140 (12.63%) farms were affected within 78 zones in 14 provinces. In multivariable analysis, illegal entrance of fries (odds ratio: 7.81, 95% CI: 3.63-16.8), illegal entrance of fish (odds ratio: 5.60, 95% CI: 3.03-10.35) and use of river as the water supply (odds ratio: 2.46, 95% CI: 1.51-4.02) were detected as risk factors associated with virus entry and disease outbreak in farms. Conclusion: Observing biosecurity measures in the farm level, applying risk-based surveillance based on known risk factors, and assessing these factors on a regular basis are important in prevention and control of VHS.

Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia

Viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS) is an acute to chronic viral disease of salmonids that causes serious economic problems in rainbow trout cultured in several European countries. Although this disease has not been detected in North America, it is included here as a disease of significant concern. The disease was first recognized by Schaeperclaus in Germany in 1938. In 1949, the disease was nam...

Risk-Based Management of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus in Minnesota

Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV; strain VHSV-IVb) is an emergent and serious disease of fish in the Great Lakes region of North America. In addition to the numerous large-scale mortality events in wild fish, the emergence of VHSV has resulted in a major regulatory response to protect both farm-raised and wild fish populations. However, characterizing and mitigating risk factors for the...

A Survey of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS) in Turkey

Existence of viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) has been recently reported in Turkey. A total of 5967 marine and freshwater fish were sampled to detect VHSV between 2007 and 2009 in the Black Sea region of Turkey. Of the 5967 fish, five fish tested positive by PCR reactions of tissue filtrates and supernatants of cell cultures showing CPE indicated by a specific 587 bp fragments from the...

Phylogeny of the Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus in European Aquaculture

One of the most valuable aquaculture fish in Europe is the rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, but the profitability of trout production is threatened by a highly lethal infectious disease, viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS), caused by the VHS virus (VHSV). For the past few decades, the subgenogroup Ia of VHSV has been the main cause of VHS outbreaks in European freshwater-farmed rainbow trout....

بار ذهنی کار و عوامل مؤثر بر آن در پرستاران شهرستان کاشان در سال 1393

Background and Objective: Nurses are people who do important works in hospitals. Studies have shown that the strain level among nurses has inverse relation to the quality of care provided by them. One of the factors that can affect the nurse's behavior and performance in the workplace is mental workload. The aim of this study was to assess the mental workload and its affected factors among...
