abstract

functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (mwcnts) with nh2 groups under a one pot reaction is studied. during the first step of the reaction, cl and chcl2 groups were attached to the surfaces of mwcnts through an electrophilic addition reaction. in the second step of process, cl atoms were replaced with nh2 and amino groups (ethylene diamine and butyl amine) under a nucleophilic substitution reaction. the aminated mwcnts have high solubility and dispersion stability in organic solvents and polymeric matrixes. ftir, xrd, tga and raman spectroscopy were used for characterization of the achieved products. the analysis results indicate that the mwcnts functionalized with high concentration of amino groups. also, treated cnts show good dispersity and interfacial compatibility when used to make mwcnt/polymer composites. proposed method is an efficient route to introduce of amino groups onto the surfaces of mwcnts and the process is a very effective, clean, safe and easy to operate, and the scale up of this method is easy.

One Pot Chemically Attachment of Amino Groups on Multi walled Carbon Nanotubes Surfaces

Functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with NH2 groups under a one pot reaction is studied. During the first step of the reaction, Cl and CHCl2 groups were attached to the surfaces of MWCNTs through an electrophilic addition reaction. In the second step of process, Cl atoms were replaced with NH2 and amino groups (ethylene diamine and but...

One-pot noncovalent method to functionalize multi-walled carbon nanotubes using cyclomatrix-type polyphosphazenes.

This report demonstrates a simple and highly effective one-pot noncovalent method for the preparation of soluble MWCNT-poly(cyclotriphosphazene-co-4,4'-sulfonyldiphenol) nanocables based on a hard template mechanism.

Adsorption of Humic Acid On Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Background: Natural organic matters (NOMs) have the main role in formation of trihalomethanes. These compounds are in natural water sources due to biological activities. In the presented study, adsorption and separation of humic acid as an index of natural organic matters using multi-walled carbon nanotubes is evaluated. Methods: The experiments were carried out in bath adsorption reactors wit...

Continuum models of multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Molecular mechanics (MM) simulations have been carried out to determine energetically favorable double-walled carbon nanotube (DWNT) structures, and analyze their infinitesimal extensional, torsional, radial expansion/contraction, and bending deformations. Loads are applied either to one wall or simultaneously to both walls of an open-ended DWNT. These results are compared against single-walled...

Telescopic Oscillations of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

A simplified theory of the telescopic oscillations in multiwalled carbon nanotube is developed. The explicit expressions for the telescopic force constants (longitudinal rigidity) and frequencies for telescopic oscillations are derived depending on interacting tubes diameters and lengths. The contribution of small-amplitude telescopic oscillations to low temperature characteristics of nanotubes...

Nonlinear Vibration of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes

carbon nanotube is investigated based on an elastic multi-layer shell model with van der Waals interaction taken into consideration. The multi-walled carbon nanotube is described as an individual elastic shell and the interlayer friction is negligible between the inner and outer tubes in the proposed model. And the Donnell equations of cylindrical shells are employed to describe the nonlinear b...
