Constructing a Body-Fixed Reference Frame for a Polyatomic Molecule

An attempt is made to show in a straightforward way how a body-fixed frame may be constructed in classical and hence in quantum mechanics for a polyatomic molecule with the aid of which the vibration-rotation behavior of the molecule may be described.

Triad Formulations of Canonical Gravity without a fixed reference frame

One can simplify the triad formulations of canonical gravity by abandoning any relation to a fixed coordinate system. That means in case of the adm formalism that one can determine the momentum by direct derivation of the Lagrange-3-form w.r.t the time-derivative of the triad-1-forms, thus the momentum is most naturally a 2-form. We apply this concept to the Palatini formulation where we can cl...

The Vibrational Spectra of a Polyatomic Molecule

The vibrational motion of a molecule is quantized and the resulting energy level spacings give rise to transitions in the mid-IR portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (4000 to ca. 400 cm). As you know from study of the diatomic harmonic oscillator, the energies (or wavenumber positions, cm) of these transitions are related to the bond strength (force constant), bond length, and atomic masses ...

Sisyphus Laser Cooling of a Polyatomic Molecule.

We perform magnetically assisted Sisyphus laser cooling of the triatomic free radical strontium monohydroxide (SrOH). This is achieved with principal optical cycling in the rotationally closed P(N^{''}=1) branch of either the X[over ˜]^{2}Σ^{+}(000)↔A[over ˜]^{2}Π_{1/2}(000) or the X[over ˜]^{2}Σ^{+}(000)↔B[over ˜]^{2}Σ^{+}(000) vibronic transitions. Molecules lost into the excited vibrational ...

A Frame of Reference for SOA Migration

Migration of legacy systems to service-based systems constitutes a key challenge of service-oriented system engineering, namely rehabilitation of pre-existing enterprise assets while conforming to service engineering principles. Over a decade there has been an increasing interest in the approaches addressing SOA migration. These approaches mainly differ in ‘what is migrated’ and ‘how the migrat...
