abstract

the chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of laurus nobilis l. has been examined by gas chromatography (gc) and gc- mass spectrometery (ms). the main components of the oil were identified. 1,8-cineole was the major component in the oil together with b-terpinyl acetate, terpinene-4-ol, a-pinene, b-pinene, p-cymene, linalool and terpinene-4-ylacetate. the essential oil was tested against anopheles stephensi and culex pipiens larvae. the results obtained show that the essential oil could be considered as natural larvicidal agents.

Essential oil composition of Laurus nobilis L. of different growth stages growing in Iran.

The chemical variations of the essential oil from the aerial parts of Laurus nobilis L. (Lauraceae) have been studied. Plant material has been harvested at each phenological status (vegetative, before anthesis, full flowering and seed-bearing). The oils were obtained by hydrodistillation of the air-dried samples. Analysis by GC and GC-MS of the essential oils has allowed to identify 39 compound...

Laurus nobilis: Composition of Essential Oil and Its Biological Activities.

Laurus nobilis is native to the southern Mediterranean region and cultivated mainly in Europe and the USA as an ornamental and medicinal plant. The chemical composition of the essential oil (EO) from leaves of L. nobilis, collected in Southern Italy, was studied by GC and GC-MS. In all, 55 compounds were identified, accounting for 91.6% of the total oil. 1,8-Cineole (31.9%), sabinene (12.2%), a...

Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Artemisia annua L. Essential Oil from Iran

The composition of the essential oil obtained from the dried flowering aerial parts of Artemisia annua L. (Compositae) was analysed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-two components were identified in the essential oil of A. annua L. with campher (48.00%), 1,8-cineole (9.39%), camphene (6.98%) and spathulenol (4.89%) as major components. The essential oil was evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal act...

Seasonal and Geographical Variation of Laurus nobilis L. Essential Oil from Tunisia

Yield and composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from leaves of laurel coming from ten different sites in Tunisia were determined. From each locality, leaves were harvested during four different vegetative stages (October, production of seeds; January, dormancy; April, flowering; July, vegetative activity) to look for some correlation between composition and vegetative s...
