evaluation of apr1 gene expression in candida albicans strains isolated from patients with multiple sclerosis
Authors
abstract
conclusions the results suggested that apr1 gene expression in c. albicans strains isolated from ms patients may be an important factor for invasive c. albicans strains in the progression of ms disease. results there was a statistically significant difference in apr1 gene expression of c. albicans strains between ms patients (mean ± sd: 0.5208 ± 0.11518) and the control group (mean ± sd: 0.7603 ± 0.11405) (p = 0.000). significant correlations were found between the apr1 gene expression of c. albicans strains from ms patients with regard to age and the expanded disability status scale (edss) (p = 0.000). the mean values of edss were 1.6074 ± 0.1081 after antifungal treatment and 2.2519 ± 0.1323 before antifungal treatment (p = 0.000). no significant correlation was observed between the apr1 gene expression with regard to sex and ms subtypes. objectives the aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of the apr1 gene in c. albicans isolates obtained from patients with multiple sclerosis (ms) and from controls. patients and methods the samples were obtained from 135 ms patients with candidiasis and 100 matched controls of healthy individuals during 2010 - 2011. the clinical and control isolates of c. albicans obtained from individuals were cultured onto sabouraud dextrose agar (sda). the evaluation of apr1 gene expression was performed using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (rt-pcr) method. background intracellular aspartic proteinase a enzyme is expressed by the apr1 gene and is one of the important factors in the development of systemic candidiasis caused by candida albicans.

full textA Comparative Study on Level of erg11 Gene Expression in Non-albicans Candida Strains Isolated from Patients and Raw Milk
Nowadays, non-albicans Candida are common in human pathogens, and some of these cases were found in milk in the present study. Thanks to its various minerals and vitamins, milk is a good food source for humans and an ideal environment for the growth of microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi. Also, it is an important product in the agricultural sector. Materials and Methods: In the presen...
full textInvestigation of Mutations of ERG11 Gene in Fluconazole Resistant Strains of Candida Albicans Isolated From Patients With Volvovaginitis in West of Mazandaran
Background and Aims: Candida albicans as an opportunistic fungal pathogen in human is the cause of volvovaginitis candidiasis. Azole resistance is cinsiderable as worldwide problem in treatment of candidiasis. Azole resistance can occur through different mechanisms such as mutation in ERG11 gene. The aim of our study was evaluation of ERG11 gene mutations in fluconazole resistant islotes of C. ...
full textEvaluation of proteinase and phospholipase activity of Candida albicans strains isolated from the mouth of patients with controlled and uncontrolled diabetes mellitus in Qazvin province: Short Communication
Pathophysiological changes in the mouth of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) predispose to overgrowth of Candida albicans. Various virulence factors such as proteinase and phospholipase production are involved in the process of degradation of the host cell membrane. These enzymes are involved in binding Candida species, especially in the hyphae stage, to the target tissue. In this study, the...
full textGene Expression of CD226 and Its Serum Levels in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis
Background: Recent studies have found some genetic variants as a risk factor for autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Cluster of Differentiation 226 (CD226) is one of the risk factors for MS. Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the gene expression of CD226, and its protein serum level in peripheral blood samples of MS patients and healthy individuals. Materials & ...
