abstract
this study was done in research institute of nuclear medicine from 1988-1992 for evaluation of the value of serum thyroglobulin level in comparison with 1-131 whole body scan (1-131 wbs) in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. 204 patients who had total or near total thyroidectomy treated with 1-131 were evaluated in this study. out of 204 patients 136 did not have regional or distant metastases. 68 patients had recurrence and metastases in which 42 cases showed good correlation between htg and 1-131 wbs. in 14 cases with recurrence and metastases only 1-131 wbs was diagnostic and in 12 cases htg was diagnostic while 1-131 wbs was negative. with the help of other diagnostic modolities such as tl-201, chest x-ray biopsy and repeated 1-131 wbs during 5 years of follow-up regional recurrence and metastases were diagnosed. serum htg level for diagnosis of recurrence and metastases hud a sensitivity of 79.4%, specificity 90.4% and accuracy of 86.8% while 1-131 wbs had sensitivity of 82.3%, accuracy of 94.1% and specificity of 100%.

Discrepancy between pre & post treatment WBSs (Low dose & high dose, respectively) is reported. The aim of this study was determination the post-treatment WBS role in the diagnosis of lesions not identified by the pretreatment one. In this study 94 patients (pts) with DTC were evaluated. The results of pre & post treatment WBSs were compared. Overall, 25.6% of pts revealed more positive l...

full textEvaluation of response to I-131 ablative therapy in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma: A five year retrospective study [Persian]
Differentiated thyroid carcinomas usually show good uptake and response to I-131 ablative treatment. In this study, 90 patients following near total thyroidectomy who were referred to our institute for I-131 therapy are retrospectively studied. The patients are divided in two groups. Group 1 revealed complete ablation after one dose of I-131. Group 2 needed more than one dose of I-131 for...

In research institute for nuclear medicine (Tehran University of Medical Sciences) 50 patients with follicular thyroid carcinoma were evaluted retrospectively. The purpose of the study was assesment of the response of iodine-131 therapy. The best result were achieved when the patient treated with iodine-131 for the first time, in the 4th decade of life, with total thyroidectomy and no met...
full textPost-Therapeutic I-131 Whole Body Scan in Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Therapy with radioiodine (I-131) has been used for patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer such as papillary and follicular thyroid carcinoma to ablate normal thyroid tissue or to treat metastatic lesions. The improvement of survival rates and decrease of recurrence rates after I-131 therapy has been documented by retrospective studies (Mazzaferri & Jhiang, 1994; Samaan et al., 1992). ...
