abstract

mastitis is a one of the major diseases of dairy animals. staphylococcus aureus is the most common microorganism associated with this dairy scourge. cure rates of mastitis associated with this pathogen are appallingly low. biofilm is an important virulence factor and immunogenic structure of s. aureus that makes it resistant to phagocytosis and antibiotics. reports on the efficacy of vaccine prepared from a biofilm producing s. aureus are infrequent. the present study was designed to evaluate the role of a bacterin-toxoid prepared from a strong biofilm producing s. aureus in effective immunization of rabbits. the strong biofilmproducing s. aureus selected from 64 isolates of staphylococci was used to prepare bacterin-toxoid and aluminum hydroxide gel was added as an adjuvant. the vaccine was evaluated in rabbits by challenge protection assay and humoral immune response. the mortality rates in control and vaccinated groups were 80% and 10% at day 7 post challenge and 100% and 20% at day 15 post challenge, respectively. serum antibody titer (gmt) was significantly higher (294.0) in vaccinated group as compared to control group of rabbits (2.63) at day 45. the results showed that the vaccine has significantly elicited humoral immune response in rabbit and developed protective efficacy against new infections.

Evaluation of humoral and cellular immunity of recombinant autolysin protein Staphylococcus aureus in mouse model

Background: Staphylococcal aureus is a gram positive cocci and opportunistic pathogen. Due to the spread of this bacterium to antibiotics resistance, one of the most important ways of prevention is the use of vaccines. In this respect, autolysin protein as one of the adhesion molecule of bacteria plays an important role for binding bacteria to the host cells and cell division. Herein, the role ...

High Frequency of biofilm related genes (icaD, fnbA, icaA and clfA) among Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine with subclinical mastitis

Background and aim: Regarding to the importance of Staphylococcus aureuscolonization in bovine mastitis and the role of biofilm in its pathogenesis, the aim of the present study were to assessment of biofilm production and identification of biofilm related genes among S. aureus isolated from bovine with subclinical mastitis. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 502 m...

A high prevalence of tylosin resistance among Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from bovine mastitis

The macrolides appear to have considerable effects for treatment of bovine mastitis because of excellent diffusion into the mammary gland, long half-life, low protein binding, high intracellular concentration and lipid solubility. Acquired resistance to macrolides in Staphylococcus aureus is primarily related to target-site modification through acquisition of an erm gene. In t...

Frequency of specific agr groups and antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine mastitis in the northeast of Iran

Staphylococcus aureus is generally regarded as a leading cause of mastitis in dairy cattle. The aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of agr groups and any possible relationship between agr groups and antibiotic resistance among S. aureus strains isolated from bovine mastitis in Northeast of Iran. For this purpose, a total of 300 bovine mastitic mi...
