assessing absorption coefficient of hemoglobin in the breast phantom using near-infrared spectroscopy
Authors
abstract
objectives in this study, the absorption coefficient of hemoglobin (hb) was used to distinguish between normal and abnormal breast tissue. materials and methods a near-infrared source (637 nm) was transmitted from major and minor vessels of a breast phantom containing 2×, 4× concentrations of oxy- and deoxy-hb. the absorption coefficients were determined from spectrometer (sm) and powermeter (pm) data. results the absorption coefficients were 0.075 ± 0.026 cm-1 for oxygenated hb (normal) in major vessels and 0.141 ± 0.023 cm-1 at 4× concentration (abnormal) with sm, whereas the breast absorption coefficients were 0.099 ± 0.017 cm-1 for oxygenated hb (normal) in minor vessels and 0.171 ± 0.005 cm-1 at 4× concentrations with sm. a comparison of the data obtained using a sm and a pm was not significant statistically. conclusion the study of the absorption coefficient data of different concentrations of hb in normal and abnormal breasts via the diffusion of near-infrared light is a valuable method and has the potential to aid in early detection of breast abnormalities with sm and pm in major and minor vessels. background blood concentrations and oxygen saturation levels are important biomarkers for breast cancer diagnosis.

full textChange of Hemoglobin Concentration with nano particles can predict breast cancer using near infrared source?
Introduction: Early detection and treatment of breast cancer may be helping to save the lives of patients. Many new techniques have been urban to detect breast cancer. One of them is the use of nano-particles for accuracy and early diagnosis after photo transfer. In this study, rod gold nano particles was used according their ability to change light source transfer intensity. ...
full textNondestructive Firmness Estimation of Tomato Fruit Using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy
Today, nondestructive methods are widely used to determine the quality of agricultural products. Meanwhile, visible and near-infrared (Vis/NIR) spectroscopy is regarded as one of the most widely used methods in the field of quality assessment of agricultural products. In this study, a system was developed to measure the Vis/NIR spectra of tomato fruit samples in the half-transmittance mode of m...
full textDetermining Blood Glucose Concentration using Near Infrared Spectroscopy: Early Findings
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is one of the diseases that have grown dramatically in today's societies. People with diabetes should continuously measure their blood glucose level. Continuous blood glucose measurement by commonly used methods is painful and difficult. On the other hand, mobile phone can be a useful tool for accessing physicians and telemedicine services more easily. The aim of...

full textAssessing muscle vasodilation using near-infrared spectroscopy in cardiac patients.
BACKGROUND In patients with chronic heart failure, an inadequate increase in muscle blood flow resulting from impaired vasodilation plays a key role in their exercise intolerance. However, no non-invasive methods to assess muscle vasodilation during dynamic exercise were available. We investigated whether the changes in tissue hemoglobin and myoglobin content (total-Hb + Mb) determined by non-i...
