abstract

there are morphological and reproductive physiological differences between swamp buffalo (bubaluscarabanensis) and river buffalo (bubalus bubalis). the development of fetus weight and fetus biometry wasreported in river buffalo and other animals but not in swamp buffalo. the aim of this study was to describethe inherent variability in fetus related measurements during swamp buffalo pregnancy. the data is based on measurements of 267 fetuses and 5 new born claves from swamp buffalo. the results show that a significant linear correlation exists between estimated age of fetuses and parameters of fetus sizes. there were correlations between crown-rump length (crl) and other fetal parameters, as well as between fetus weight and its parameters. in conclusion, our data indicated that the feasibility and value of fetal measures in swamp buffaloes being used for the evaluation of fetal development.

Prenatal Development of the Pars Intermedia of the Pituitary Gland in the Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)

This study was carried out on p i tu i tary glands collected from buffalo embryos and fetuses with a crown vertebral rump length (CVRL) ranging from l.5 to 95 cm. The specimens were immediately immer-sed in the fixatives at least 3 days and paraffin embedded for routine histological work. The primordia of the pars intermedia (PI) appeared at 1.5 cm CVRL as group of undiffere-ntiated mesenchymal...

α-Tocopherol and l-ascorbic acid increase the in vitro development of IVM/IVF swamp buffalo ( Bubalus bubalis) embryos.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of capacitating agents added at in vitro fertilization (IVF) and antioxidants supplemented during in vitro culture (IVC) on the development of buffalo embryos. In experiment I, in vitro embryo development of buffalo embryos was compared when the IVF medium was supplemented with heparin, caffeine and calcium ionophore A23187 either alone or in ...

Histoenzymatic studies on prenatal development of submandibular salivary gland in buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)

Aim: The present study was aimed at elucidating the distribution of various enzymes in the submandibular salivary gland of buffalo during prenatal development and correlation of these enzyme systems with the secretory activity of the gland. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out on submandibular salivary gland of 15 buffalo fetuses ranging from 11 cm curved crown-rump length (CVRL) (7...

Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Mature and Immature Oocytes of the Swamp Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)

Maternal protein components change markedly during mammalian oogenesis. Many of these proteins have yet to be characterized and verified. In this study, a proteomics approach was used to evaluate changes in proteins during oogenesis in the Swamp Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). Proteins from 500 immature oocytes and 500 in vitro matured oocytes were subjected to two-dimensional electrophoresis, and m...

Seasonal variation in semen quality of swamp buffalo bulls (Bubalus bubalis) in Thailand.

AIM To test the hypothesis that season affects the semen quality of swamp buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) bulls used for artificial insemination (AI) under tropical conditions in Thailand, as it does in Bos taurus and Bos indicus. METHODS Clinical and andrological examinations, and monitoring of semen production and quality were carried out on five mature, healthy swamp buffalo AI bulls in Thailand...
