serologic profile of salmonella enteritidis in poultry flocks of iran
Authors
abstract
salmonella enteritidis (se) is frequently isolated from poultry and humans. chicken meat and egg are two important sources of se infection for humans. this study was conducted to detect the se infection in iranian poultry farms using serological methods. a number of 8208 serum samples were provided from 171 poultry flocks (pullet, commercial layer, broiler breeder, layer breeder, grandparent breeder, and broiler) and were analyzed by rapid slide agglutination test (rsa) and elisa. all samples were negative in rsa but ~ 45%l of samples (from 112 flocks) contained anti-se antibody in elisa. the titres ranged 0.476-0.590, which were at low level and showed the value of elisa vs. rsa. the results indicated that the poultry flocks had been infected with se at least once during the course of production. this is the first comprehensive study, at this sample size, in iran regarding the serologic profile of se in poultry flocks and its findings are very important for poultry industry and the control strategy for se infection.

The purpose of this study was to survey infections with Salmonella spp. in poultry flocks in the vicinity of Tehran and to determine the most frequent serogroups and serotypes implicated. Twenty-eight samples of pullet, layer, and broiler flocks were randomly collected (n=1463), including freshly dropped feces from live birds or visceral organs from dead birds. In most flocks, 60 samples were t...

full textOccurrence of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis isolates from poultry in Iran
Salmonella enterica is recognized as one of the major food-borne pathogens with more than 2,500 serotypesworldwide. The present study addresses antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidisisolates in Iran. A collection of 151 Salmonella spp. isolates collected from poultry were serotyped toidentify Salmonella Enteritidis. Sixty-one Salmonella Enteritidis were subsequently...

AIM The present work aimed to develop lateral flow immunochromatographic strip (ICS) test for detection of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) specific antibodies in chicken sera. MATERIALS AND METHODS A rapid lateral flow immunochromatographic test (LFIT) has been developed, in which SE Group D antigen labeled with the gold chloride molecules laid on the conjugate pad. Staphylococcus aureus protein ...
full textCompetitive exclusion of Salmonella enteritidis by Salmonella gallinarum in poultry.
Salmonella Enteritidis emerged as a major egg-associated pathogen in the late 20th century. Epidemiologic data from England, Wales, and the United States indicate that S. Enteritidis filled the ecologic niche vacated by eradication of S. Gallinarum from poultry, leading to an epidemic increase in human infections. We tested this hypothesis by retrospective analysis of epidemiologic surveys in G...
full textSerologic profile of avian leukosis virus subgroup-J, Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae in broiler grandparent flocks of Iran.
Avian Leukosis Virus Subgroup-J (ALV-J). Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and MycopJasma synviae (MS) are important pathogens in chickens that cause severe economical losses in poultry industry throughout the world. Seven broiler grandparent flocks of Iran (six broiler strains) were sampled randomly at the ages of 8-63 wk (100 samples from each flock) for antibody detection to ALV-J, MG, and MS ...
