investigating allelopathic effects of artemisia sieberi on seed germination and seedling growth indices of three alfalfa species
Authors
abstract
allelopathy is one of the main factors limiting the plants growth. the present study investigated the effect of aqueous extract of leaves and fruit of artemisia sieberi that is an important species for rangeland rehabilitation on seed germination and seedling growth of three alfalfa species (medicago sativa cv. nikshahri, medicago polymorpha and medicago scutellata cv. robinson) in laboratory and glasshouse. treatments were five concentrations of 0, 25, 50, 75 100% artemisia extract. treatments were evaluated using a completely randomized factorial experiment in four replications in germinator and pots separately (2014). data were collected and analyzed for the germination percent, germination rate, seedling length, seedling weight and seed vigor index. means comparisons were made using duncan test. the results showed significant differences between extract concentrations of artemisia on all of traits in both growth conditions (p

full textALLELOPATHIC EFFECTS OF Artemisia monosperma DEL. ON GERMINATION AND SEEDLING GROWTH OF SOME RANGE PLANT SPECIES
Artemisia monosperma is observed to be as one of the first species to dominate disturbed sand dunes in Saudi Arabia. Despite its importance as a sand stabilizer, it has no forage value. It is feared that this species may arrest the natural succession of vegetation. A series of controlled environment experiments was conducted to study the potential allelopathic effects of A. monosperma on germin...
full textAllelopathic Relations of Selected Cereal and Vegetable Species during Seed Germination and Seedling Growth
Allelopathy is the direct or indirect harmful effect which one plant produces on another through the production of chemical compounds that escape into the environment. In the presence paper allelopathic relationships were determined in three cereals wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), oat (Avena sativa L.) and vegetable crops spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.), radish (Raphan...
full textImpact of Heavy Metal Stress on In Vitro Seed Germination and Seedling Growth Indices of Two Turfgrass species
Turfgrass is one of the important components of ornamental plant in the construction of parks and landscapes so that the purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of type and different concentrations of Copper, Zinc and Cobalt on germination and seedling growth of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) seeds in in vitro conditions. This study was c...
full textallelopathic potential of alfalfa shoot aqueous extract on germination and seedling growth of four weed species
the allelopathic potential of different concentrations (0, 5 %, 10 %, 20 % and 40%) of medicago sativa shoot extracts were assayed on germination and radicle growth of four weed species( amaranthus hybridus, amaranthus albus, solanum nigrum and chenopodium album) in a laboratory experiment as completely randomized factorial with 3 replications. the results showed that, final germination percent...
full textInvestigation of Chilling Effects on Characteristics of Seed Germination, Vigor and Seedling Growth of Nepeta spp. Species
To study the effects of chilling on dormancy breaking and the increased germination characteristics of Nepeta (germination percent and speed, seedling length, vigor index, wet and dry weight), a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with 4 replications was implemented in a laboratory in 2014. Factor A was the chilling treatment in three levels (control, one-month and two-month ...
