abstract

to optimize the field evaluation of resistance to cercospora leaf spot, 12 sugar beet cultivars were evaluated under field conditions in gharakhil, ghaemshahr at 15-days intervals. measurements were carried out based on kws 1-9 and agronomia 1-5 scales. disease severities were graded based on total plants per plot and also based on means of 5 randomly selected plants in each plot. analysis of each recording date and also multivariate analysis of variance based on lambda statistics indicated that measurements at each stage are not reliable for resistance evaluation and infection severity should be recorded during the growing season. so genotypes comparison should be done based on the disease trend during the season. also, it seems that plot grading is as accurate method for measurement of infection as single plant grading. therefore, it can be used to facilitate the evaluation of resistance.

evaluation of commercial sugar beet cultivars for resistance to cercospora leaf spot under field condition

resistance of 16 sugar beet cultivars to cercospora leaf spot was evaluated in ghaemshahr region. the experiment was conducted in a complete block design with 6 replications, and, disease severity of cultivars was measured two times. root yield of cultivars, as well as their disease severity, was compared with each other under natural cercospora infection in dezful area (winter crop). in dezful...

Matching-Based Cercospora Leaf Spot Detection in Sugar Beet

In this paper, we propose a robust disease detection method, called adaptive orientation code matching (Adaptive OCM), which is developed from a robust image registration algorithm: orientation code matching (OCM), to achieve continuous and site-specific detection of changes in plant disease. We use two-stage framework for realizing our research purpose; in the first stage, adaptive OCM was emp...

Identification and Precise Mapping of Resistant QTLs of Cercospora Leaf Spot Resistance in Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris L.)

The complex inheritance of resistance to Cercospora leaf spot (CLS), the most severe fungal foliar disease in sugar beet, was investigated by means of quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis. Over a three year period, recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.), generated through a cross between lines resistant ('NK-310mm-O') and susceptible ('NK-184mm-O') to CLS, were field...

evaluation of sugar beet resistance to cercospora beticola using detached leaf disks

in order to determine possibility of using detached leaf disks for evaluating resistance to cercospora beticola, the causal agent of leaf spot in sugar beet, twelve sugar beet cultivars exhibiting different levels of resistance to cercospora leaf spot were evaluated under field and laboratory conditions. the field experiment was conducted in a complete randomized block design with six replicate...

NMR-Based Metabolic Profiling of Field-Grown Leaves from Sugar Beet Plants Harbouring Different Levels of Resistance to Cercospora Leaf Spot Disease

Cercospora leaf spot (CLS) is one of the most serious leaf diseases for sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) worldwide. The breeding of sugar beet cultivars with both high CLS resistance and high yield is a major challenge for breeders. In this study, we report the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based metabolic profiling of field-grown leaves for a subset of sugar beet genotypes harbouring different...
