abstract

there are several factors influencing the water quality based on its usage. the quality of drinking water is of the vital concern for human health and life. an essential attempt has to be done to develop a water quality index (wqi) corresponding with different conditions and characteristics of the relevant river or water body such as geographical, hydrological, discharge rate and pollution sources. the index is not specifically focused on human health or aquatic life regulations. however, a water index based on some very important parameters can determine a simple indicator of water quality. in the present study, the gorganrood water quality has been evaluated by available nsf water quality index. subsequently, the nine present nsf parameters’ weights have been changed and modified using the analytical hierarchy process (ahp) method as well as experts’ opinions in the field in a way to satisfy local conditions. in the newly developed wqi, more weights are given to relation with these parameters it can be said that the factors like dissolved oxygen (do), fecal coliform (f.c) and biological oxygen demand (bod) when compared with nsf-wqi.

Assessment of water quality in Blinaja River Basin (Kosovo) using the Canadian Water Quality Index (WQI)

Kosovo has limited natural water resources which should be well managed. This is recently realised through quantitative and qualitative monitoring of both surface and groundwater and by characterizing their quality according to their destination. In this paper, the Water Quality Index (WQI) developed by the Canadian Council of Environment Ministers (CCME WQI) was applied to evaluate the groundw...

Developing a Water Quality Index (WQI) for an Irrigation Dam

Pollution levels have been increasing in water ecosystems worldwide. A water quality index (WQI) is an available tool to approximate the quality of water and facilitate the work of decision-makers by grouping and analyzing numerous parameters with a single numerical classification system. The objective of this study was to develop a WQI for a dam used for irrigation of about 5000 ha of agricult...

Survey of water quality in Moradbeik river basis on WQI index by GIS

Background: Survey of pollution and evaluation of water quality in rivers with Oregon Water Quality Index (OWQI) and GIS are effective tools for management of the impact of environmental water resources. The information in calculating the WQI of Moradbeik river allowed us to take our tests results and make a scientific conclusion about the quality of water. GIS can be a powerful tool for develo...

Evaluation of Gorganrood river water quality based on surface water quality indicators in Gonbad Kavous

Background and Objective: Increased untreated wastewater and unsustainable development of agriculture has deteriorated water quality of rivers. The aim of this study was to determine the quality of water in Gorganrud River basin using NSFWQI IRWQISC and Liou Pollution Index and compare them with the global standards. To do this, GIS software.was used Materials and Methods: In this study, 5 sam...
