abstract

salinity and drought are two major abiotic stresses that affect rice (oryza sativa l.) production in worldwide. salt and drought tolerance and high seedling vigor of rice is one of the important traits in the establishment of seedling in direct planting system and saline and drought environments. in this research, the mapping population of f2:4 families derived from the cross between local variety gharib (salt and drought tolerant) and improved variety sepidroud (salt and drought sensitive) was used for identification of molecular markers linked to salt and drought tolerant genes at faculty of agriculture and natural resources, gonbad kavous university and biotechnology laboratory, guilan university in 2010-2012.  a linkage map of 2475.7 cm with an average interval of 10.48cm was constructed using 105 aflp markers and 131 ssr markers. qtl analysis using composite interval mapping detected ten qtls for germination stress index, vigour seed index, traits germination rate, germination percentage, radicle length, plumule length, coleorhiz length, plumule dry weight, coleoptile fresh weight and seedling dry weight under drought stress conditions of either mannitol (8) and salinity (8 ds). among the identified qtls, seven qtls associated with drought stress, and seven qtls associated with salt stress, explained over 15% of the total phenotypic variance of traits. it seems that these qtls can be the major qtls controlling traits of drought and salinity tolerance and with more confidence they could be used in marker assisted selection program.

Halopriming and Hydropriming Treatments to Overcome Salt and Drought Stress at Germination Stage of Corn (Zea mays L.)

To study the effects of halopriming and hydropriming in overcoming salt and drought stress in corn (Zea mays L.),two experiments were separately conducted at Shahrood University of Technology. Seed treatments consisted ofcontrol (untreated seeds), soaking in distilled water for 32 h (hydropriming), and soaking in 50 mmol solution ofCaCl2 for 16 h (halopriming). Germination and early seedling gr...

Mapping QTLs for cold tolerance at germination and the early seedling stage in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Cold tolerance is an important breeding target in rice production. We studied quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling cold tolerance at germination (CTG) and early seedling (CTS) stages, using recombinant inbred lines derived from a japonica × indica cross. CTG was evaluated based on the percentage rate of germination at 15 °C for 12 days after pre-incubation of imbibed seeds at 20 °C for 2 ...

Genetic Structure of Salinity Tolerance in Rice at Seedling Stage

The Oryza sativa L. F8 population derived from a cross between salt tolerance cv. Ahlemi Tarom and salt sensitive cv. Neda was used in the study. Germinated seeds floated on water for 3 d, and after were transferred to float on Yoshida's nutrient solution for 11 d. two weeks after sowing, the seedling was transferred to nutrient solution containing 51.19 mM NaCl (electrical conductivity 6 dSm-1...

qtls mapping controlling phonological traits of barley under normal and drought stress conditions

in order to map qtls controlling phonological traits of barley under normal and drought stress conditions, an experiment was conducted by 72 doubled-haploid lines and their two parents (steptoe and morex), at the research farm, college of agriculture, university of zabol, in 2011. the experiment was arranged in completely randomized block designs with three replications under normal irrigation ...

Mapping QTLs for Physiological Traits Associated with Drought Tolerance in Rice (Oryza Sativa L.)

Drought is the most important limiting factor for crop production and it is becoming an increasingly severe problem in many regions of the world [1]. According to FAO statistics, the percentage of drought affected land areas more than doubled from the 1970s to the early 2000s in the world [2]. Drought is a world-spread problem seriously influencing grain production and quality and with increasi...
