abstract

presence of risks and uncertainties inherent in project development and implementation playssignificant role in poor project performance. thus, there is a considerable need to have an effective riskanalysis approach in order to assess the impact of different risks on the project objectives. a powerful riskanalysis approach may consider dynamic nature of risks throughout the life cycle of the project, as well asaccounting for feedback loops affecting the overall risk impacts. this paper presents a new approach toconstruction risk analysis in which these major influences are considered and quantified explicitly. theproposed methodology is a system dynamics based approach in which different risks may efficiently bemodeled, simulated and quantified in terms of time, cost and quality by the use of the implemented objectoriented simulation methodology. to evaluate the performance of the proposed methodology it has beenemployed in a bridge construction project. due to the space limitations, the modeling and quantificationprocess for one of the identified risks namely “pressure to crash project duration” is explained in detail.

System Dynamics Aproach For Quantitative Risk Allocaion

Allocation of construction risks between clients and their contractors has a significant impact on the total construction costs. This paper presents a system dynamics (SD)-based approach for quantitative risk allocation. Using the proposed SD based approach, all the factors affecting the risk allocation process are modeled. The contractor’s defensive strategies against the one-sided risk alloca...

A DST-based approach for construction project risk analysis

Despite its huge potential in risk analysis, the Dempster–Shafer Theory of Evidence (DST) has not received enough attention in construction management. This paper presents a DST-based approach for structuring personal experience and professional judgment when assessing construction project risk. DST was innovatively used to tackle the problem of lacking sufficient information through enabling a...

Risk Analysis for Design-Build Construction Projects: A Simplified Approach

Construction Projects are being implemented under different contract systems in the Midwest. Negotiated design-build has been a popular contract system in recent years. It provides various advantages through entailing the contractor to be responsible for the whole project. However, design-build turns out to be risky system for both owners and contractors unless the risks are identified, quantif...

combination of monte carlo simulation and system dynamics modeling for project time risk analysis

monte carlo simulation is a standard technique for project risk analysis. however, some assumptions of this technique are not reasonable in real world. when a project falls behind the schedule, managers take actions to improve the performance. nevertheless, most of the simulation models as monte carlo omit these reactions in their analysis, which results in unreasonable wide distributions or ev...

Equitable Risk Allocation in Construction Projects: Fuzzy Bargaining Game Approach

An equitable risk allocation between contracting parties plays a vital role in enhancing the performance of the project. This research presents a new quantitative risk allocation approach by integrating fuzzy logic and bargaining game theory. Owing to the imprecise and uncertain nature of players’ payoffs at different risk allocation strategies, fuzzy logic is implemented to determine the value...
