abstract

background in some autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (ra), interleukin-27 (il-27) and il-33 levels are increased. these observations suggest that il-27 and il-33 may have a role in the pathogenesis of polymyositis/dermatomyositis (pm/dm). conclusions these data indicate that il-27 might be selectively involved in the pathogenesis of dm and pm. however, il-33 does not appear to be influenced. results the serum levels of il-27 in patients with dm and pm were higher than those of healthy controls. there were no significant differences in serum levels of il-33 in patients with dm and pm compared to the healthy control group. patients and methods twenty patients with dm and nine patients with pm were recruited in this study. twenty-nine healthy controls whose age and gender were matched with the patients were also recruited. serum il-27 and il-33 was measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa). objectives the aim of this study was to assess il-27 and il-33 levels in pm/dm patients compared to healthy control subjects.

Serum Levels of Interleukin 17 in Patients with Pemphigus and Healthy Subjects

Introduction: Pemphigus is a relatively rare autoimmune bullous disease involving skin and mucous epithelia. The disease occurs as a result of production of auto-antibodies against inter-cellular epithelia especially cadherin and desmoglein. Interleukin 17 (IL-17) is one of the specific cytokines of T helper. IL-17 plays an important role in delayed type reaction and recruits neutrophils and mo...

Comparison of Serum Vitamin D and Interleukin-6 Levels in Patients with Preeclampsia and Healthy Pregnant Women

ABSTRACT         Background and Objective: Nutritional factors and activation of inflammatory pathways are thought to be involved in pathogenesis of preeclampsia in pregnant women. The present study aimed to compare the serum levels of vitamin D and interleukin-6 in healthy pregnant women with those of preeclampsia ones.      &...

Reduced interleukin-18 levels in BAL specimens from patients with asthma compared to patients with sarcoidosis and healthy control subjects.

STUDY OBJECTIVES To investigate whether differing airway interleukin (IL)-18 levels may be implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma and sarcoidosis. SETTING University teaching hospital. PATIENTS AND METHODS IL-18 levels were measured in BAL fluid and in the supernatant of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated alveolar macrophages obtained by BAL from 15 patients with sarcoidosis, 11 patients...

Levels of Interleukin 33 and Interleukin 27 in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis Egyptian patients

Background: Cytokines are important mediators of immune functions in humans and animals. IL-27, an IL-12 family cytokine, exerts a critical role in immune regulation in the context of infection and autoimmunity. IL-33, a newly foundIL-1 family cytokine is involved in joint inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). So, we aimed to investigate the immunopathological roles of IL-27 and IL-33 in s...

Upregulation of Interleukin 21 and Interleukin 21 Receptor in Patients with Dermatomyositis and Polymyositis

BACKGROUND The immunopathologic mechanism underlying dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM) remains poorly understood. Many cytokines play a pathogenic role in DM and PM. Interleukin 21 (IL-21) has a pleiotropic effect on inflammation regulation. This study aimed to detect the serum IL-21 level and investigate the expression of IL-21 and IL-21 receptor (IL-21R) in muscle tissues of patients...
