abstract

conclusions since ki-67 is extensively accepted as an important biomarker in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancerous and precancerous lesions, a high degree of presence of this biomarker in chronic precancerous lesions, such as erosive olp, can be of great use in prognosis and suggested treatments. objectives this study aimed to evaluate ki-67 expression in erosive and non-erosive oral lichen planus. materials and methods specimens (formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded) of 30 lesions of erosive olp and 30 lesions of non-erosive olp were referred for immunehistochemistry (ihc) analysis of ki-67. results of immunohistochemistry were statistically evaluated by means of the chi-square test and independent t-test. the level of statistical significance was established at p < 0.05. background oral lichen planus (olp) is a relatively common, chronic inflammatory condition, which is considered a precancerous lesion. the ki-67 antigen is expressed in all the phases of the cellular cycle in proliferative cells. different studies have suggested the relationship between incidences of malignancy in precancerous lesions and the occurrence of this protein. results the mean expression of ki-67 in patients with erosive olp was higher than people in the control group. these differences were statistically significant (p = 0.041).

Evaluation of the Serum Zinc Level in Erosive and Non-Erosive Oral Lichen Planus

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory immunologic-based disease involving skin and mucosa. This disease is generally divided into two categories: erosive and non-erosive. Many etiologic factors are deliberated regarding the disease; however, the disorders of immune system and the role of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes and monocytes are more highlighted. Zinc is an imperative ele...

Immunohistochemical analysis of Ki-67 expression in oral lichen planus lesions

Introdouction: Lichen planus is a chronic, relatively common, dermal mucosa disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced lichen planus as a premalignant condition. Ki-67 is a protein that can be detected in all active phases of the cell cycle, especially in the G2 and M phases. Considering the major role of Ki-67 in the regulation of the cell cycle and the fact that it is one of ...

Erosive Palmoplantar Lichen Planus

Erosive palmoplantar lichen planus (LP), also known as ulcerative or bullous LP, was first described by Cram et al. in 1966 as a rare variant of LP that can affect mucous membranes, palms, and soles. It presents clinically as erythematous, ulcerated plaques that run an extremely chronic course and are resistant to all types of treatment. The patient was an 84-year-old woman with a personal hist...

Oral erosive lichen planus treated with efalizumab.

A 54-year-old white woman presented with a 3-month history of progressive painful lesions on her tongue and oral mucosa. Her primary care physician initially treated her with nystatin and hydrogen peroxide, followed a few weeks later by acyclovir (Zovirax) ointment and a rapid 5-day prednisone taper, without improvement in her symptoms. Two months after the oral lesions developed, violaceous pa...

Serum Level of Interleukin 17 in Patients with Erosive and Non erosive Oral Lichen Planus

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Oral lichen planus is a relatively common chronic oral mucosal disease of unknown etiology. Regarding numerous studies on the immunologic factors involved in the etiology of lichen planus, the present study evaluated the serum interleukin-17 (IL-17) level in patients with erosive and non-erosive oral lichen planus. MATERIALS AND METHODS This descriptive analytical study in...
