ex-vivo apical seal comparison of root canal obturation using mta fillapex versus mta orthograde
Authors
abstract
introduction: mineral trioxide aggregate (mta) as an alternative material to gutta-percha for obturation of root canal in special cases has several drawbacks. the purpose of this study was to compare the apical sealing ability of a new mta-based sealer versus mta. materials and methods: a total of 36 canals of extracted maxillary central incisors were instrumented and randomly divided into 3 experimental groups (n=10) and two negative and positive control groups (n=3). lateral compaction technique was performed using ah26 sealer (group 1 or control), and mta fillapex (group 2). the canals in group 3 were filled using vertical compaction of mta alone. sealing ability was evaluated using dye leakage penetration method. data was analyzed by one way anova and lsd (least significant difference) test. results: the observed leakage in groups 2 and 3 which were filled with mta fillapex and mta orthograde was significantly different from the control group which were filled with ah26 sealer (p=0.015, p=0.001). there was no significant difference between group 2 and 3 which was filled with mta fillapex and mta orthograde (p=0.205). conclusion: within the limitation of this in vitro study, there was no significant difference between apical sealing ability of mta fillapex and mta orthograde.

full textComparison of the apical seal on filled root canals with Topseal® vs MTA Fillapex® sealers: A quantitative scintigraphic analysis
This study investigated the microleakage of two different root canal obturation systems, using the nuclear medicine approach, with sodium pertechnetate Tc. Twenty six single-rooted extracted teeth were selected. The crowns were sectioned to obtain 15 mm long root segments and each tooth was prepared using rotary ProFile instruments. The roots were divided into 2 experimental groups and two cont...
full textMTA-Based Root Canal Sealers
Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has been recommended for pulp capping, pulpotomy, apical barrier formation in teeth with open apexes, repair of root perforation and root canal obturation. Since, its introduction in 1993 by Torabinejad numerous studies have been published regarding various aspects of this material. The aim of this review was to consider MTA as root canal sealer and various labo...
full textThe effect of irrigating solutions on the apical sealing ability of MTA Fillapex and Adseal root canal sealers
Background. Maximum sealing ability or adhesion of endodontic sealers can be achieved after effective removal of the smear layer. Endodontic irrigants assist in adequate removal of the smear layer, improving the retention mechanism. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two different root canal irrigation solutions (5.25% NaOCl followed by 17% EDTA and QMix) on the apical sealing ...
full textAntibacterial Activity of MTA Fillapex and AH 26 Root Canal Sealers at Different Time Intervals
INTRODUCTION The main goal of endodontic treatment is elimination of bacteria and their by-products from infected root canals. This study compared the antibacterial effect of two different sealers, AH 26 and MTA Fillapex, on 4 microorganisms 24, 48 and 72 h and 7 days after mixing. METHODS AND MATERIALS The microorganisms used in this study consisted of Lactobacillus acidophilus (ATCC 4356), ...
