effects of carbamide peroxide bleaching gel on color of silorane- and methacrylate-based resin composites
Authors
abstract
introdouction: bleaching has become a common treatment for improving the appearance of natural teeth. however, the need to protect dental restorations from bleaching agent exposure is inevitable, as these agents may change the color of restorative materials by oxidation. filtek p90 composite resin has recently been introduced with the aim of decreasing polymerization shrinkage. the purpose of this study was to compare the color changes of silorane- and methacrylate-based resin composites after exposure to various carbamideperoxide regimens. materials and methods: sixty-four disk-shaped specimens (10 × 2 mm) of a microhybrid composite, z250, and a siloranebased composite, p90, were prepared and divided into four subgroups (n = 8). an unbleached group was used as a control, while the remaining specimens in the three subgroups were bleached with 10%, 16%, and 22% carbamide peroxide for 14 days. the color was measured with a spectrophotometer using commission international de i’eclairage l*, a*, and b* color scale. the data were analyzed using anova, the t-test, and tukey’s hsd test. results: color differences between bleaching and baseline values (&deltae;) were <3.3 for all the groups. z250 and p90 resin composites showed color changes after bleaching with 10%, 16%, and 22% carbamide peroxide, but the changes were insignificant (z250: p = 0.323, p90: p = 0.136). conclusion: the color changes were not clinically evident in the sample groups. for both the z250 and p90 specimens, no statistically significant differences in color were noted.

full textComparison of Color Change of Silorane and Methacrylate-Based Composites Due to Bleaching
Background and Aim: Bleaching agents differently affect the color of composite restorations. This study aimed to assess the effect of two different bleaching agents on color change of silorane-based and two types of methacrylate-based composites. Materials and Methods: This in-vitro study was conducted on 18 disc-shaped specimens measuring 10×2mm made of A3 shade of Z250, Z350 and P90 composite...
full textThe color stability of silorane- and methacrylate-based resin composites.
The purpose of this study were to evaluate the discoloration of a silorane-based resin and two methacrylated-based resin composites upon exposure to different staining solutions coffee, red wine, porcine liver esterase and distilled water for 7 days. The colors of all specimens before and after storage in the solutions were measured by a spectrophotometer based on CIE Lab system, and the color ...
full textEffect of 38% carbamide peroxide on the microleakage of silorane-based versus methacrylate-based composite restorations
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess the effect of 38% carbamide peroxide on the microleakage of class V cavities restored with either a silorane-based composite or two methacrylate-based composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 96 class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surface of extracted human teeth with both enamel and dentin margins and were randomly assigned into three groups...
full texteffect of in-office carbamide peroxide-based tooth bleaching system on wear resistance of silorane-based and methacrylate-based dental composites
objectives: several studies have assessed the characteristics and properties of silorane-based composites and adhesive systems. considering the extensive application of tooth-whitening agents, possible deteriorative effects of tooth bleaching agents on these restorative materials must be studied. the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of an in-office carbamide peroxide-based tooth ble...
full textEffect of 15% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel on color stability of giomer and microfilled composite resin: An in vitro comparison
OBJECTIVES The effect of 15% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel on color stability and surface topography of a giomer and a microfilled composite resin was evaluated in the present in vitro study. STUDY DESIGN Forty discs measuring 10 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness were prepared from a giomer and a microfilled composite resin. Each material yielded 20 discs with completely smooth surfaces...
