Dynamics and control of space free-flyers with multiple manipulators

چکیده
This paper studies the motion control of a multiple manipulator free-flying space robot chasing a passive object in near proximity. Free-flyer kinematics are developed using a minimum set of bodyfixed barycentric vectors. Using a general and a quasi-coordinate Lagrangian formulation, equations of motion for model-based controllers are derived. Two model-based and one transposed Jacobian control algorithms are developed that allow coordinated tracking control of the manipulators and the spacecraft. In particular, an Euler parameter model-based control algorithm is presented that overcomes the non-physical singularities due to Euler angle representation of attitude. To ensure smooth operation, and reduce disturbances on the spacecraft and on the object just before grasping, appropriate trajectories for the motion of spacecraft/manipulators are planned. The performance of model-based algorithms is compared, by simulation, to that of a transposed Jacobian algorithm. Results show that due to the complexity of space robotic systems, a drastic deterioration in the performance of model-based algorithms in the presence of model uncertainties results. In such cases, a simple transposed Jacobian algorithm yields comparable results with much reduced computational burden, an issue which is very important in space.

Dynamics of Space Free-Flying Robots with Flexible Appendages
A Space Free-Flying Robot (SFFR) includes an actuated base equipped with one or more manipulators to perform on-orbit missions. Distinct from fixed-based manipulators, the spacecraft (base) of a SFFR responds to dynamic reaction forces due to manipulator motions. In order to control such a system, it is essential to consider the dynamic coupling between the manipulators and the base. Explicit d...
متن کاملCoordinated Motion Control of Multiple Manipulator Space Free-flyers
In this paper, coordination between a spacecraft and its several manipulators is investigated, during a capture maneuver of a moving object in space. Using a general Lagrangian formulation, the dynamics model of the system is derived, and the results are summarized in an explicit dynamics model of multiple manipulator space free-flyers. The system dynamics is also formulated on the basis of cho...
متن کاملManipulation Control of a Flexible Space Free Flying Robot Using Fuzzy Tuning Approach
Cooperative object manipulation control of rigid-flexible multi-body systems in space is studied in this paper. During such tasks, flexible members like solar panels may get vibrated that in turn may lead to some oscillatory disturbing forces on other subsystems, and consequently produces error in the motion of the end-effectors of the cooperative manipulating arms. Therefore, to design and dev...

This paper focuses on the dynamics of a multiple manipulator space free- ying robot (SFFR) with rigid links and issues relevant to the development of appropriate control algorithms. To develop an explicit dynamics model of such complex systems, the Lagrangian formulation is applied. First, the system kinetic energy is derived based on a developed kinematics approach. Then, through vigorous mat...
متن کاملOn the control of space free-flyers using multiple impedance control
The Multiple Impedance Control (MIC) is a new algorithm which enforces a designated impedance on both a manipulated object, and all cooperating manipulators. In this paper, the MIC is applied to a space robotic system in which robotic arms, mounted on a free-flyingbase, manipulate an object. The general formulation of the MIC is extended to include the dynamic coupling between the arms and the ...
