چکیده

___ ____________ _ Six types of commercially available arterial screen filters ranging from 20 to 40 microns pore size were evaluated for their efficiency in removing particulate matter. Five filters of each of these six commercial types were tested, for a total of thirty filters. Three sizes of polystryene microspheres ranging from 25 to 53 microns in diameter were used to simulate particulate contamination. For each determination, approximately 124,000 microspheres were introduced proximal to each filter in a circuit flowing at 6L/min. An ultrasonic microemboli detector was positioned distal to each filter to monitor the presence of microspheres. Filtration efficiency ranged from 20.6% to 99.6% with 25 micron spheres, 13.9% to 99.5% with 35 micron spheres, and 94.4% to 99.4% with 53 micron spheres. IntroductioiL ___________ _ Microemboli have long been incriminated as a cause of multi-organ dysfunction during and after cardiopulmonary bypass. 14 Several sources of emboli can be cited: platelet aggregation induced Direct communications to: Ronald J. Evaluation of Glass Fiber Hepa Filters as a Function of Media Velocity

The Department of Energy currently employs high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in a variety of applications, such as particulate matter removal from ventilation air and treatment of off-gasses from storage or remediation of mixed wastes. Section FC of the ASME AG-1 Code addresses glass fiber HEPA filters and restricts the media velocity to a maximum of 5 ft/min. Advances in filtratio...

Transparent air filter for high-efficiency PM2.5 capture.

Particulate matter (PM) pollution has raised serious concerns for public health. Although outdoor individual protection could be achieved by facial masks, indoor air usually relies on expensive and energy-intensive air-filtering devices. Here, we introduce a transparent air filter for indoor air protection through windows that uses natural passive ventilation to effectively protect the indoor a...

Evaluation of Air Filtration Systems to Reduce Aerosol Transmission of PRRS

(1) High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration: the HEPA-filtration system used a prefilter screen, a bag filter (Eurovent [EU] 8 rating), and a HEPA filter (EU13 rating). (2) 2×-low-cost filtration: The low-cost-filtration system contained mosquito netting (prefilter), 2 fiberglass furnace filters, and 2 electrostatic furnace filters. (3) Bag filtration: Bag filtration involved the use ...

Reducing patients’ exposures to asthma and allergy triggers in their homes: an evaluation of effectiveness of grades of forced air ventilation filters

OBJECTIVE Many interventions to reduce allergen levels in the home are recommended to asthma and allergy patients. One that is readily available and can be highly effective is the use of high performing filters in forced air ventilation systems. METHODS We conducted a modeling analysis of the effectiveness of filter-based interventions in the home to reduce airborne asthma and allergy trigger...
