چکیده

1. Objective The objective is to understand and extend a recent theory of turbulence based on dynamic renormalization group (RNG) techniques. The application of RNG methods to hydrodynamic turbulence has been explored most extensively by Yakhot and Orszag (1986). They calculate an eddy viscosity consistent with the Kolmogorov inertial range by systematic elimination of the small scales in the flow. Further, assumed smallness of the nonlinear terms in the redefined equations for the large scales results in predictions for important flow constants such as the Kolmogorov constant. The authors emphasize that no adjustable parameters are needed. The parameterization of the small scales in a self-consistent manner has important implications for sub-grid modeling.

Renormalization Group (RG) in Turbulence: Historical and Comparative Perspective1

The terms renormalization and renormalization group are explained by reference to various physical systems. The extension of renormalization group to turbulence is then discussed; first as a comprehensive review and second concentrating on the technical details of a few selected approaches. We conclude with a discussion of the relevance and application of renormalization group to turbulence mod...

A Real-Space Discrete Inverse Renormalization Group Method.

A numerical version of a real-space of the Inverse Renormalization Group (IRG) proposed in [1] is developed. It has been tested to obtain the scaling behavior of the random-forced heat equation in the short scales limit. Prospectives are described, and the most important target for the procedure is fully developed turbulence.

Renormalization Group on Turbulence

In 1986, Yakhot and Orszag developed a dynamic renormalization group method to solve the turbulence problem. In this paper, a particular random force is added to the Navier-Stokes Equation, and then following the standard renormalization group procedure, renormalization group equations and fixed points can be obtained. Together with some perturbation methods, many important turbulent constants ...

An Exact Renormalization Group analysis of 3 − d Well Developed turbulence ∗

We take advantage of peculiar properties of three dimensional incompressible turbulence to introduce a nonstandard Exact Renormalization Group method. A Galilean invariance preserving regularizing procedure is utilized and a field truncation is adopted to test the method. Results are encouraging: the energy spectrum E(k) in the inertial range scales with exponent −1.666±0.001 and the Kolmogorov...

Scaling regimes of 2d turbulence with power law stirring: theories versus numerical experiments

We inquire the statistical properties of the pair formed by the Navier–Stokes equation for an incompressible velocity field and the advection-diffusion equation for a scalar field transported in the same flow in two dimensions (2d). The system is in a regime of fully developed turbulence stirred by forcing fields with Gaussian statistics, white-noise in time and self-similar in space. In this s...
