Basic Avian Anatomy
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Everyone is familiar with the anatomy of mammals and may also have some knowledge of a few avian anatomical characteristics. The purpose of this discussion is to provide a deeper insight into avian anatomy and provide some comparisons to mammalian features. An understanding of avian anatomy is essential for avian practitioners. Sources of information for this discussion include the fine work of Dr. Howard Evans and Dr. Robert Clipsham.

of supportive care and emergency medicine is necessary for the successful medical management of avian patients. The basic concepts of emergency and supportive care of small animal medicine apply to birds, but modifications must be made to compensate for their unique anatomy and physiology. Supportive care including fluid therapy, nutritional support, and heat and oxygen supplementation is criti...
متن کاملAltered Testicular Histomorphometric and Antioxidant Levels Following in vivo Bisphenol-A Administration
Background: Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a pervasive environmental toxin that is used in the production processes of many consumables and equipment that are in daily application. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of BPA on the structural and functional integrity of the reproductive system in male Wistar rats and its interaction with melatonin. Methods: Adult female rats in pro-estrus ...
متن کاملCalcium Supplementation Ameliorates Cerebellar Oxidative Stress in Lactational Aluminum-induced Neurotoxicity in Rats
Introduction: The neurotoxic effects of aluminum exposure during the critical period of neurodevelopment have been well documented. This study investigated the known protective effects of calcium supplementation on the cerebellum of juvenile Wistar rats following aluminum-induced neurotoxicity during lactation. Methods: Four groups of juvenile rats were exposed via lactation to distilled water...
متن کاملA new scenario for the evolutionary origin of hair, feather, and avian scales.
In zoology it is well known that birds are characterized by the presence of feathers, and mammals by hairs. Another common point of view is that avian scales are directly related to reptilian scales. As a skin embryologist, I have been fascinated by the problem of regionalization of skin appendages in amniotes throughout my scientific life. Here I have collected the arguments that result from c...
