چکیده
UNLABELLED Auditory processing disorder is a clinical entity that may be associated with several neuropathological disorders - learning disabilities among them. AIM To characterize and compare the performance of students with and without learning disabilities in speech tests with and without background noise, dichotic listening tests, alternating dissyllable test. MATERIALS AND METHODS 40 students of both genders, ranging from 8 to 12 years of age participated in this study. They were divided in two groups: GI - 20 students with learning disabilities and GII - 20 students with good academic performance matched according to gender, age and education with GI. The evaluation consisted of basic audiological evaluation and applying dichotic listening tests, alternating disyllable test and speech test in noise. STUDY DESIGN This is a cross-sectional study with a historical cohort. RESULTS The students of GI presented inferior performance compared to Group II (GII), both on dichotic listening tests and on alternating disyllable tests, and performance with no statistically significant difference on the speech in noise test. CONCLUSION The evidence found suggests that the group of children with learning disabilities shows inferior performance compared to the group without problems, reflecting difficulties on the processing of auditory information.

Dichotic listening test (directed attention mode) in children with cleft lip and palate.
UNLABELLED Conductive hearing loss in the first years of life may lead to hearing processing and attention deficit disorders, and consequently to communication and learning impairments. AIM this paper aims to examine the performance of children with cleft lip and palate in dichotic listening tests (directed attention mode) and compare them to a control group without cleft lip and palate. متن کاملEffects of Task-based Academic Listening on High School EFL Students' Listening Comprehension: Does Experiential Learning Style Matter?
Task-based language teaching (TBLT) has been considered as an effective language teaching methodology. However, its applicability for lower-proficiency learners in EFL contexts has not been adequately justified. Moreover, the possible mediating effect of the experiential learning styles on academic listening TBLT has not been targeted in the literature, a gap that this study attempts to fill. T...
متن کاملInterhemispheric disconnection effects in multiple sclerosis.
Patients with multiple sclerosis reported less left ear numbers but more right ear numbers than controls in a dichotic listening test. The multiple sclerosis patients were also relatively impaired on three learning tasks; one of these, a test for paired-associate learning of names and faces, correlated with left ear findings; the results are interpreted as supporting a hypothesised disconnectio...
متن کاملHow Neurofeedback could affect Working Memory and Processing Speed among Girl Students with Learning Disabilities
Background: Learning disabilities (LDs) are diagnosed in children impaired in the academic skills of reading, writing, and/or mathematics. Children with LDs usually exhibit a slower resting-state electroencephalogram (EEG), corresponding to a neurodevelopmental lag. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of neurofeedback treatment on working memory and processing speed among g...
متن کاملPredicting therapeutic response to secondary treatment with bupropion: dichotic listening tests of functional brain asymmetry.
Studies using neuroimaging, electrophysiologic and cognitive measures have raised hopes for developing predictors of therapeutic response to antidepressants. Pretreatment measures of functional brain asymmetry have been found to be related to response to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor fluoxetine. This report examines the extent to which dichotic listening tests also predict clinical...
