چکیده

The uptake of hydrogen sulfide by carbon materials (ACFs and BPL) under dry and anoxic conditions was tested using a fixed bed reactor system to determine the effects of sorbent properties, temperature (200–800 C) and sulfurization protocols on the sulfur content, sulfur stability, sulfur distribution, and to elucidate possible reaction mechanisms for the formation of sulfur species. Sorbents with higher surface areas showed higher uptake capacity, indicating that active sites for sulfur bonding are formed during the formation of the pore structure. The sulfur content and stability generally increased with the increase in temperature due to a shift in the reaction mechanism. The sulfurization process is associated with the decomposition of surface functionalities, which creates active sites for sulfur bonding. The presence of H2S during the cooling process increased the sulfur content by increasing the presence of less stable sulfur forms. Sulfurized sorbents produced at high temperatures have pore structure similar to that of the virgin carbons. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Towards large area and continuous MoS2 atomic layers via vapor-phase growth: thermal vapor sulfurization.

We report on the effects of substrate, starting material, and temperature on the growth of MoS(2) atomic layers by thermal vapor sulfurization in a tube-furnace system. With Mo as the starting material, atomic layers of MoS(2) flakes are obtained on sapphire substrates while a bell-shaped MoS(2) layer, sandwiched by amorphous SiO(2), is obtained on native-SiO(2)/Si substrates under the same sul...

Sulfurization of a carbon surface for vapor phase mercury removal – II: Sulfur forms and mercury uptake

Sulfur forms deposited on carbonaceous surfaces after exposure to hydrogen sulfide were analyzed using XPS and XANES. Higher temperatures promote the formation of organic sulfur and the presence of H2S during the cooling process increased elemental sulfur content. Temperatures between 400–600 C were found to be optimal for producing effective mercury uptake sorbents. The increased amount of sul...

Polymerized Complex Method and CS2 Gas Sulfurization

Rare earth copper sulfides, LnCuS2 (Ln 1⁄4 Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd and Tb), powders were synthesized by the following procedure: (1) Ln-Cu complex oxide was synthesized using the polymerized complex method, and (2) LnCuO2 was sulfurized by the CS2 gas. CS2 gas sulfurization combined with a polymerized complex method can reduce a reaction temperature and a duration time. TG-DTA and XRD results indica...

Optical and grain boundary potential characteristics of sulfurized BiFeO3 thin films for photovoltaic applications.

Sulfurized BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films have been investigated with the purpose of reducing their band gap for photovoltaic applications. A strong dependence of the degree of sulfurization on the structure and optical properties of the BFO thin films was observed. The sulfurization process substantially reduced the optical band gap from 2.83 eV for the reference sample to ∼1.90 eV in a sample sulfur...

Sulfur Impregnation on Activated Carbon Fibers through H2S Oxidation for Vapor Phase Mercury Removal

Sulfur was impregnated onto activated carbon fibers ACFs through H2S oxidation catalyzed by the sorbent surface in a fixed-bed reactor. By changing the temperature and duration of the sulfur impregnation process, ACFs with different sulfur contents were developed. Characterization of ACFs before and after sulfur impregnation was conducted by surface area analysis, energy dispersive X-ray analys...
