Pseudomyxoma extraperitonei: a rare presentation mimicking an iliacus abscess.

چکیده
Mucoceles of the appendix are very rare lesions and are occasionally associated with pseudomyxoma peritonei, a gelatinous ascites that arises from intraperitoneal rupture or degeneration of the mucocele. Rupture of a retroperitoneal mucocele of the appendix is extremely rare; pseudomyxoma extraperitonei has been previously reported in only five patients. We report a new case of pseudomyxoma extraperitonei due to mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix which presented initially as pyrexia of unknown origin followed by the appearance of an abdominal mass mimicking an iliacus abscess. This appears to be the first case reported as presenting in such a manner.

Malignant Psoas abscess or pseudomyxoma extraperitonei.
Primary adenocarcinoma of appendix is an uncommon gastrointestinal malignancy. Similarly, Psoas abscess is an entity, which sometimes requires extensive work-up to reach a diagnosis. Combined presentation of these two rare conditions is not only exceptional, but also diagnostically challenging. We present a case of a lady who presented with recurrent UTI secondary to right sided ureteric obstru...

Very rarely mucinous implants arise in the retroperitoneum without any intra-peritoneal involvement. This has been termed as pseudomyxoma extraperitonei. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of a 57 year old man who dev...

متن کاملTreatment Challenges of Prosthetic Hip Infection with Associated Iliacus Muscle Abscess: Report of 5 Cases and Literature Review
Prosthetic joint infection is an unfortunate though well-recognized complication of total joint arthroplasty. An iliacus and/or iliopsoas muscle abscess is a rarely documented presentation of hip prosthetic joint infection. It is thought an unrecognized retroperitoneal nidus of infection can be a source of continual seeding of the prosthetic hip joint, prolonging attempts to eradicate infection...
