چکیده

We derive an explicit relation between local affine approximations resulting from matching of affine invariant regions and the epipolar geometry in the case of a two view geometry. Most methods that employ the affine relations do so indirectly by generating pointwise correspondences from the affine relations. In this paper we derive an explicit relation between the local affine approximations and the epipolar geometry. We show that each affine approximation between images is equivalent to three linear constraints on the fundamental matrix and that the linear conditions guarantee the existence of an homography, compatible with the fundamental matrix. We further show that two affine relations constrain the location of the epipole to a conic section. Therefore, the location of the epipole can be extracted from 3 regions by intersecting conics. The result is further employed to derive a procedure for estimating the fundamental matrix, based on the estimated location of the epipole. It is Preprint submitted to Computer Vision and Image Understanding January 20, 2014 shown to be more accurate and to require less iterations in LO-RANSAC based estimation, than the current point based approaches that employ the affine relation to generate pointwise correspondences and then calculate the fundamental matrix from the pointwise relations.

Using Conic Correspondence in Two Images to Estimate the Epipolar Geometry

In this paper it is shown how to use corresponding conics in two images to estimate the epipolar geometry, the fundamental/essential matrix and reconstruct the scene. The corresponding conics can be images of either a planar conic or silhouettes of a quadric. It is shown that one conic correspondence gives two constraints on the fundamental matrix and a method to estimate the fundamental matrix...

2 Arandjelović , Zisserman : Computing the F Affine from Two Ellipses

The af ne fundamental matrix FA represents the epipolar geometry in the case that the two camera projections are af ne [2]. The problem we address is estimating FA given a pair of corresponding ellipses. This is a minimal con guration for the problem, in a similar manner to the 4 point case. We will start with a counting argument and then derive the solution. FA has four degrees of freedom (dof...

Reconstruction from Uncalibrated Affine Silhouettes

In this paper we address the problem of model building in environments we do not control. An example problem is the reconstruction of aircraft geometry from images obtained from the ground. We show that using six or more unconstrained scaled orthographic silhouette views it is possible to recover the geometry of the aircraft and the motion between the camera views using only the two outer epipo...

Multi-H: Efficient recovery of tangent planes in stereo images

The input of Multi-H are point correspondences with local affine transformations and the epipolar geometry. We use Matching On Demand with view Synthesis (MODS) method [3] since it provides accurate local affinities, the fundamental matrix F and point correspondences consistent with F. Using Homography from Affine transformation and Fundamental matrix (HAF) method [1] a homography is estimated ...
